Matt is a partner and a member of Miller Nash Graham & Dunn’s Condemnation, Real Estate and Litigation Teams.  In connection with his active condemnation practice, Matt routinely advises and represents both municipal agencies and property owners regarding both substantive and procedural eminent domain law.  In addition to his substantial experience in condemnation law, Matt is also an active real estate litigator, representing and counseling clients in all aspects of commercial landlord-tenant law, including lease negotiations, disputes, workouts and unlawful detainer actions.. As a proven trial attorney, Matt has considerable experience representing clients in mediations, arbitrations and in trials, including a number of multi-week jury trials.  Matt has tried cases in King, Pierce and Snohomish County Superior Courts, and has successfully argued cases before the Washington State Court of Appeals.  Matt is a frequent speaker on legal issues involving eminent domain law and has served as author and editor for a number of state and national legal treatises on the topic.  Matt was named a "Super Lawyer" in 2013 through 2015 by Washington Super Lawyers Magazine, and a “Rising Star” for Eminent Domain Law in 2012 and 2010 by Washington Law & Politics Magazine.. Growing up in Walla Walla, Mr. Johnson’s problem-solving and innovative persona was apparent at a young age. He began working at 14 years old and held a variety of jobs through high school and college as a laborer in a local scrap metal yard, an auto mechanic, an auto body technician, a farm laborer, a metal and welding fabricator, a tow truck operator, and an engine builder building NASCAR tour edition race engines. After college, he started in a manufacturing plant building windows and doors and was rapidly promoted to serve as the production manager until he relocated in 2010. Prior to earning his law degree, his entrepreneurial spirit inspired him to start a couple companies providing unique solutions, one to greatly reduce maintenance costs for manufacturing companies and another to prevent blisters for endurance off-road racers.. Mr. Johnson began practicing law in Dayton, Washington located in southeastern Washington and soon became a Partner with Gravis Law, PLLC. His practice has spanned numerous practice areas including real property, estate planning and probate, business law, civil litigation, civil appeals, landlord and tenant law, criminal defense, served as a city prosecutor, and a modicum of family law. In recent years, his primary practice focuses are in estate planning and probate, real property, business law, and leads Gravis Law’s Estate Planning practice.. Mr. Johnson believes in the strength of community and realizes that active volunteers are a key part of building a community. He currently serves as President of the Columbia County Fair Board, is a Member of the Waitsburg Masonic Lodge, and is a former member of Lions Club, Kiwanis, and Rotary.
