A divorce is one of the most difficult experiences a person may go through in their lifetime, much like a death. Most people want to go through this transition privately and without creating more conflict. I want to help families navigate their divorce in a respectful and healthy way. It is possible to minimize, if not eliminate, the impact a divorce has on one's children and Collaborative Law encourages this. Preserving the co-parent relationships moving forward for the benefit of one's children is essential. Even if one does not have children, Collaborative Law helps the healing process begin in a mutually respectful manner.. Further, most people would like to make their own decisions in their divorce as they know what is going to work best for their own family; Collaborative divorce supports this.. Even if Collaborative Law is not the perfect fit for your divorce or family law case, there are many other options rather than traditional litigation. I encourage people to explore all the alternatives to litigation with an experienced attorney and pick something that fits their individual family.. I do not do any litigation cases any longer, but usually the cases do not need to end up in litigation if there are skilled conflict resolution attorneys working on the case.

I've been an attorney for 24 years and I have litigated approximately 250 appellate cases in the Washington Court of Appeals, Washington Supreme Court, and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals as lead attorney. I focus on family law appeals and also have a background in criminal appeals. The keys to my practice are a commitment to thoroughly understanding each case, a high standard of legal scholarship and a client relationship focus. I love explaining the legal system to people and I enjoy speaking with my clients and guiding them through the appellate system. Clients are generally referred to me by other lawyers but individual self-referral is also welcome.

Firm: Law Offices of Shana E. Thompson
1200 Fifth Avenue , Seattle , Washington 98101
Practice Areas: Family , Family, Family, Family
Shana E. Thompson has achieved success by listening carefully, understanding her clients’ long-term objectives, and helping resolve dissolutions as amicably and expeditiously as possible. In 2022, she received a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating, awarded to only those lawyers with the highest ethical standards and professional ability.. For 24+ years, Shana E. Thompson has been proudly serving individuals in family law cases throughout the cities of Seattle, Everett, and Kent. Since COVID, she has expanded her work in Washington to counties such as Clallam and Whatcom. Her client base has been built through hard work and determination, allowing her to become what she is today. She takes great pride in providing top-level service and promises your complete satisfaction when you choose her to handle your family law needs.. As with many Northwesterners, Shana is a dog person. Where she goes, so go her four-legged friends. She finds it so sad that in divorces, the court treats pets as property. When there is a dispute, the court generally places a value on your pet, gives that pet to one spouse, and provides the other spouse an “offset” in the rest of the property division for the monetary value of your pet. Shana knows that you cannot put a price on a loved one, and will do everything possible to help her clients protect their relationships with their pets. She has devised pet visitation schedules for past clients—something which can only be done through mediation.. Often, when parents separate, one parent relocates out of Washington State and long-distance transportation of children becomes something many clients have to coordinate. It is a challenge with which Shana is personally familiar, having been to the airport at 4 a.m. with her unaccompanied minor. She knows the anxiety of putting your child on a plane and the long absences that follow. She empathizes with her clients, and is right there, ready to assist in arranging the best possible long distance residential schedules for their children.. Shana is dedicated to providing you with the right services for all your divorce needs. Shana is always learning, educating herself on the latest court cases and changes to statutes that affect the practice of family law. Shana advises her clients on the current law and the effect it will have on your case.. Since 2000, I have assisted families navigate through the litigation process, both in court and through alternative dispute resolution. I have litigated hearings and trials in King and Snohomish County for over twenty years. I have represented clients in countless mediations and arbitrations, and have performed as a mediator as well. I have volunteered as a CASA, investigating the needs of children, then writing reports for and testifying before judicial officers as to what is in the best interest of a child. I attempt to resolve matters with less conflict whenever possible. I can assist with divorce, legal separation, paternity, parenting plan modifications, child support and maintenance modifications, domestic violence protection orders, prenuptial agreements, and restraining orders.

Throughout my practice, I have focused on family law cases, specifically those with complex financial issues such as closely held businesses, executive deferred compensation plans, stock grants and options, and other valuation issues. I also handle complicated parenting issues, including dealing with parents with substance abuse histories or mental health issues... Having assisted clients in a full range of property division, spousal maintenance and parenting plan issues, I seek to combine strong client advocacy with a deep understanding of the legal issues in order to provide efficient, effective, family-focused resolutions.. I was recognized by SuperLawyers magazine as a Rising Star in the area of family law (?cid=4608979).. A Washington native, I began my legal career in the Seattle area at a boutique family-law practice. Today, I practice primarily in King and Snohomish Counties.. When I'm not practicing law, I can be found spending time with my two school aged children. I'm also a frequent volunteer at their school events and in the West Seattle Community. I'm also a runner and enjoy participating in half-marathons.

I came to the family law arena reluctantly. When I left law school 22 years ago, I swore I would never, ever, ever, ever do another dissolution. Here, I am years later in a practice that deals with familys in every possible way. In many ways, I am the only lawyer a person will have contact with in their lives. I divorce them, do their pre-nuptial agreements, their annulments, their adoptions, their wills, thier probates.. At times it is a hard relationship. I end up knowing more about people then anyone but then after lots of hard work together, I am satisfied in knowing I did the best I could to help them along to a new phase of life.. I feel it is important to take the long view. Clients spend maybe a couple of years with their attorney but will be parents of the children forever. It is important to handle matters in such a way as to protect the relationship so the children don't end up the real victims.

I frequently come into my clients' lives when they are at the end of their rope. The resiliency of the human spirit never ceases to impress me.. I see my role as first, helping clients first to determine their priorities clearly, second, developing a plan to achieve as many priorities as possible, and third, implementing the plan, with modifications as required as the case progresses.. Most cases, family or otherwise, settle. I can do that. But the most skilled negotiator always needs to have a "BATNA": a Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement. For this reason, some cases go to trial. I can do that too.

Rebecca Mader is a Senior Attorney at Dellino Family Law Group. Since beginning practicing law in 2012 she has been in varying areas of highly contested civil litigation. She is licensed in eight states and has seen it all. She focuses on complex family law matters including high conflict dissolution cases, serious child custody disputes, protection orders, and more. She discovered her passion for family law early in her career, and enjoys applying her litigation and negotiation skills in ways that help her clients achieve the best possible outcome.. My Approach. You're probably here because of a change, or an impending change, in your life. Change, and the unknown, can be scary. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and that while it may be difficult for a time, you will come out of whatever you are going through as a stronger person, ready to jump into the next chapter of your life. Nobody begins a relationship thinking that it may someday end, or will turn into something painful and antagonistic. Nevertheless, the odds are that we will all encounter it at some point. I have been there too.. I am always available to my clients and coworkers. I will always be on your side, and will fight for you. Throughout the course of representation, whether you need a confidant, a safe place to vent, or a zealous and passionate advocate in the courtroom, I will be here for you.. Background. I was born in Washington State as an army brat out of Fort Lewis. My family later moved to Anchorage, AK. I have always thought of both states as home accordingly. When I'm not working for you and your family, I'm spending time with mine (including our two rambunctious rescue pups, Homer and Kodiak).. Things that I love: animals, traveling, hiking up the steepest mountains I can find, trail running, cooking, antiques, scuba diving, exploring new cities and countries, and Gudetama.. Things that I do not love: dishonesty, carpet, miniature food, crunchy cookies, and fluorescent lights.. That's enough about me. I want to hear about you! I want to figure out what we can do to help you through whatever you are dealing with: from prenuptial agreements intended to keep your soon to be marriage conflict-free, to separation and divorce, child custody issues, protective orders, and everything in between.

Family law entails more than just a legal procedure. My clients are dealing with multiple changes in their lives. They have to juggle jobs and budgets, face the prospect of moving, take care of their children, and deal with the inevitable stress that results from family conflict. In sum, they are confronting a total disruption in their family lives--today, tomorrow, and into the future.. It's a highly emotional and personal process. Clients are thrown into an arena they do not understand, without the tools they need to protect themselves and their children...That's where I come in.
