Mr. Mirza served on the Examination Committee of the Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS) for Immigration & Nationality Law from 2006 through 2012, serving as Chair from 2011-2012. The Examination Committee assists the TBLS in writing, administering and grading the examinations of attorneys seeking board certification in Immigration & Nationality Law in Texas.. Mr. Mirza served on the TBLS Advisory Commission for Immigration & Nationality Law from 2005 through 2011, serving as Chair from 2010-2011. The Advisory Commission assists the TBLS in determining the appropriate criteria for Board Certification in Immigration & Nationality Law in Texas, and for reviewing the qualifications of applicants wishing to take the board certification exam.. Mr. Mirza is also an Adjunct Professor at Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. This course is designed to teach law students the immigration consequences of crimes, the tools to craft effective defenses, and the opportunity to analyze new trends as new statutes take effect and are interpreted. Kentucky, 559 U.S. (March 31, 2010), a holding that addresses the constitutional responsibility of criminal defense attorneys to properly advise their clients of the immigration consequences of their guilty pleas.. Mr. Mirza served on the State Bar of Texas Ethics/Disciplinary Committee from 1994 until 1999, serving as Panel Chairman from 1998 until 1999.. Mr. Mirza has previously served as the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) co-liaison for the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) Texas Chapter from 1995-1996..
