Patrick G. Rimar focuses his practice in the areas of estate and trust administration and litigation, estate planning, elder law, real estate, small business representation, and contracts. He has almost fifty years of experience in the legal field, having worked in law firms since his initial days as a student in law school. Mr. Rimar then progressed from employee to junior partner and to senior partner with several prestigious Buffalo law firms. He then formed a new partnership in the City of Buffalo before creating his current practice within the Town of Amherst, New York in 1984.. Mr. Rimar is a graduate of Canisius High School and Canisius College. After considering full scholarships from Duke University School of Law and the Boston College School of Law, Mr. Rimar elected to focus on a Western New York legal practice and attended the University at Buffalo School of Law, from which he received his Juris Doctor degree. Mr. Rimar is currently admitted to practice in New York State courts, Federal Court, Bankruptcy Court and Tax Court.. He served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of captain and was a member of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit in Fort Benning, Georgia and the 1151st USAR School in Tonawanda, New York.. As a professor at the University at Buffalo School of Law for six years, he taught “Sports Law” and “Professional Contract Negotiations.”. He was the senior member on the Town of Amherst Recreation Commission and served on that body for over thirty-three years. As a member and spokesperson for the Town of Amherst Ice Rink Committee and the Town of Amherst Ice Facility Review Committee, he was instrumental in the approval and construction of a four-rink ice complex in the Town of Amherst and was a member of the Financial Oversight Committee for that facility.. He acted as an official liaison between the Town of Amherst and numerous volunteer organizations and he has been active in various charitable activities, including Kiwanis, Gateway Home, Children’s Hospital and Ali’s Rally. Mr. Rimar has also coached in minor hockey for many years and has given coaching clinics to over twenty-five thousand amateur coaches.. Mr. Rimar was the first recipient of the J. Michael Duffett Award from the Buffalo Sabres—an award given for excellence in coaching and displaying high character value in amateur hockey. He was the first recipient of the Town of Amherst Achievement Award for service to the community and received that award three times. As a coach, he received the prestigious John Barnes Award from Canisius High School in joining its Sports Hall of Fame and was also inducted into that body in 2015 as a golfer. The Town of Amherst Chamber of Commerce welcomed him into its Avenue of Athletes for his coaching and athletic prowess. He has received dozens of additional citations from local, state and national governments for achievement and civic service, including letters from Presidents of the United States and the key to the City of Buffalo.
