Andrew Y. Yi was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington. He grew up in south Tacoma and attended Visitation Primary School and Bellarmine High School. Andrew’s primary areas of practice include criminal defense and plaintiff’s personal injury law.. Andrew attended New York University and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and mathematics with high honors. During his time at NYU, Andrew was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and received numerous awards for scholastic excellence including the NYU Honors Scholars Award and the NYU Founders Day Award (awarded to undergraduates who graduate in the top ten percent of their class). Andrew also served as an intern for U.S. Senator Patty Murray as an undergraduate.. Andrew attended law school at Vanderbilt University Law School in Nashville, Tennessee on a merit scholarship. During his time at Vanderbilt, Andrew was inducted into Phi Delta Phi, an international legal honors fraternity with an emphasis in promoting legal ethics. Andrew worked at various legal internships including serving as a research assistant for several Vanderbilt law school professors, in the general counsel’s office for a large publicly traded company, for several law firms, and as a law clerk for the Washington State Court of Appeals, Division II. Andrew’s internships exposed him to a variety of areas of law, both civil and criminal, and allowed him to learn the intricacies of both trial and appellate litigation.. After graduating from law school, Andrew was admitted to the Washington State Bar, the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Following his admission to the bar, Andrew worked as a deputy prosecutor for the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office.. Andrew is a member of the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Washington Defender’s Association, the Honorable Robert J. Bryan Inn of Court, and the Washington Association for Justice. In his spare time, Andrew serves as a member of the board of directors for A Step Ahead in Pierce County, a non-profit organization serving the needs of developmentally disabled children..
