Dennis Calo is a widely respected criminal and civil trial attorney. He is a graduate of Columbia College and the New York University School of Law.. Mr. Calo joined The Bergen County Prosecutor’s office in 1977 where he quickly advanced from general trial attorney to Chief of the Grand Jury Section. He then established The Bergen County Homicide Squad and was Chief of that for eleven years. During that time he investigated hundreds of homicides and suspicious deaths and tried capital and other major homicide cases. Mr. Calo became a recognized expert in applying forensic scientific techniques in investigations and the court room.. In 1983, Mr. Calo was appointed First Assistant Prosecutor, becoming the chief administrative officer of the Prosecutor’s Office. He oversaw a staff of over 200 attorneys, investigations, and clerical employees, continued to direct the Homicide Squad and supervised other specialized squads and investigations, including political corruption, fraud, arson, sex crimes and child abuse and narcotics.. In 1990, Mr. Calo left the Prosecutor’s office for private practice. He became a partner with the firm of Cohn Lifland Pearlman Hermann and Knopf where he concentrated in criminal defense and civil litigation.. In 1992, Mr. Calo became Managing Partner of Calo Agostino in Hackensack, where he practiced for eighteen years. Mr. Calo continued to concentrate on criminal defense and civil litigation, with particular emphasis on civil rights and employment law, including wrongful termination, harassment, hostile environment and whistle-blower cases.. Mr. Calo represents and advises business clients, such as ADP, and municipal governments. He also represents individual clients in federal and state courts where he has received million dollar plus recoveries for his clients..
