My lawyer brother talked my mom into a reverse mortgage, which has taken over half the value of her home. He also has lived with her for the last 25years and has had no job. He was living off of her until he started drawing SSDI about 3-4 years ago, so now he financially contributes to the food budget. My 91-year-old mother recently had a heart attack and is now having to be moved everywhere with the assistance of a wheelchair. She can bathe and eat, but can not stand for any lengthy period of time. My brother is now demanding to get paid to take care of mom since he lives with her still and wants mom and I to sign a contract stating that the accumulated hours of pay be taken out of whatever is left after selling the house once my mom passes. She and I need some legal advice. He is a bully and will bully my mom into submission. When I opposed, he told me that he could litigate circles around me. I live 30 miles away and have a job, wife, 4 kids, 4 grandkids, and a mother-in-law that I take care of, but I still come up and stay with her a couple of times a week to give him a break, but he is demanding that I put in 40 hours a week to care for her, or he gets paid for the time he has to cover me. He is very bitter towards my deceased father for not taking out his Social Security when he helped start the family business in the mid-70s, and because of that, he gets very little Social Security money. He claims that because of that, he is the one who paid for the house in the first place. As I mentioned before, he is a very bitter bully, and I'm afraid that he might withhold the proper care my mother needs if we do not succumb to his demands. My mother and I need advice on how to handle this situation. Mom only gets $1,790.00 per month in Social Security income, and I am not even able to pay my own bills since my business is so bad. I'm 5 mo's behind on every creditor I have and I have my own outstanding medical bills, so we have very few resources to pay any major bills that this may incur. Can you spare some advice on what we can do, or whom we might get some help from? Mom and I need some protection. Thanks,
