Ellie Lockwood is an associate attorney at Reilly Pozner LLP. She focuses her practice on complex civil and intellectual property litigation. She has gained significant litigation experience at Reilly Pozner and has successfully argued against a stay and protective order in a multi-million dollar RICO lawsuit in federal court. Recently, Ellie assisted client with obtaining prejudgment attachment orders, temporary restraining orders, and a preliminary injunction freezing assets until trial in a case involving claims for violation of the Colorado Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act and civil conspiracy. She has significant experience with contempt and post-judgment proceedings. She also helped with obtaining dissolution of a temporary restraining order and defeating a motion for preliminary injunction, leading to the plaintiff’s complete dismissal of a trade secret misappropriation suit against client in federal court. In 2011, she helped to obtain a complete defense verdict for a private equity firm in a bench trial, successfully defended the verdict on appeal, and obtained an award of attorneys’ fees and costs totaling nearly $1 million for client. In 2013 and 2014, she was a member of the trial team representing the rights of AIG as a certificateholder in connection with a proposed $8.5 billion settlement of mortgage-backed securities claims against Bank of America in New York Supreme Court in Manhattan.. She also has experience with drafting complaints, dispositive motions practice, e-discovery, taking and defending depositions, trial work, expert witnesses, motions practice for temporary relief, including injunctions, stays, and protective orders, evidentiary hearings and argument, contempt hearings, cases with parallel criminal proceedings, and appellate work. The majority of cases she has worked on involve fraud claims and business torts, including breach of fiduciary duty claims and claims in the mortgage-backed securities context.. Ellie has an active pro bono practice. In 2012, she served as Special Counsel for the State Public Defenders Office and in that capacity represented an indigent person in the Denver County Court. She obtained a complete dismissal in that criminal case one week before trial was scheduled to begin. Ellie was also part of the team of attorneys that secured a landmark settlement with the State of Colorado in a civil rights lawsuit over provision of competency evaluations to pre-trial detainees. She is an active member of the Colorado Lawyers Committee, where she participates in the Mental Health Task Force and the Lobato School Finance Litigation Task Force. She recently received back-to-back recognition from the Colorado Lawyers Committee for her assistance on the Legal Center v. Bicha case (2013) and the Lobato v. State of Colorado case (2012). She also is a member of the Faculty of Federal Advocates Counsel/Co-counsel Program, which provides pro bono representation in the United States District Court for the District of Colorado in civil cases where the judge has determined the case is sufficiently complicated to warrant representation.. She is committed to improving diversity in the Denver legal community and is actively involved in the Diversity & Inclusiveness Committee at Reilly Pozner LLP.
