Thomas Reid received his Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California. Prior to law school, he studied Criminal Justice at the University of Nevada in Reno, Nevada. Tom is currently licensed to practice law in California and Oregon. He is an active member of the American Bar Association, Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity, the University of Nevada Alumni Association, and the Oregon and California State Bars. He served as the Treasurer, Secretary and now serves as Vice President of the Probate and Estate Planning Section of the Sacramento County Bar Association. Tom also has a passion for teaching and has lectured for the National Business Institute and has worked as an adjunct professor at Heald College and MTI College teaching Torts, Probate, Contracts and Employment Law to paralegals.. Tom has had a wide array of experiences in the financial industry since his law school career working for E*Trade Financial and State Street (formerly Investors Bank and Trust). While working at E*Trade Financial, he obtained a wealth of knowledge regarding investments and financial planning through administering the accounts of numerous Fortune 500 clients and their employees. At State Street, Tom reconciled investment transactions to protect corporate client’s assets. His knowledge of investment strategies and the financial industry, as a whole, provides his clients with a strong base from which to preserve wealth and secure their assets from unnecessary fees and taxes. Tom operated the Law Office of Thomas D. Reid from 2006 through 2008, where he practiced Estate Planning and Business Law. During the representation of his clients, Tom provided a wide variety of services including but not limited to representing beneficiaries in multi-million dollar trust disputes, serving as legal counsel in trust litigation cases, assisting clients in minimizing estate tax liability and unnecessary probate fees, probating estates, and drafting business documents for small to medium sized businesses in the Northern California area. Tom’s litigation background provides invaluable insight to estate and business clients by way of presenting issues to clients for proactive planning to avoid litigation.. Tom worked at the Burton Law Firm from August, 2008 to June 2011 where he provided litigation support for the Firm’s business and estate clients as well as handled the Firm’s probate matters. His focus on advocacy in law school and his professional career provides an invaluable asset to the Firm’s clients.. From June 2011 to December 31, 2020, Tom partnered with Tyler Happe to form Happe Reid, PC. In doing so, Tom provided estate planning, trust and probate administration, conservatorship and estate litigation support to the Firm's clients. During his time at Happe Reid, PC, Tom worked to raise over $15, for charitable organizations in the Fair Oaks community.. Originally from Anchorage, Alaska, Tom currently resides with his wife, Kate, and three sons, Hayes, Tate ad Ky, in Fair Oaks, California. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling (having visited 43 of the 50 states), attending college basketball and football games and playing ice hockey. Tom is an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and can be found fishing on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula on his time off.
