Monica’s academic excellence earned a full-tuition scholarship to Washburn University School of Law, where she attained her Juris Doctorate. While in law school, Monica was elected Student Bar Association Secretary, Kansas Bar Association Representative, and International Law Society Faculty Liaison. She was also a member of the Family Law Society. Based on her superior legal writing and research skills, she was selected to mentor other law students as the Legal Analysis, Research and Writing Teacher’s Assistant. Monica participated in internships at the Kansas Association for Justice, where she attended meetings of the Kansas House Judiciary Committee and analyzed proposed statutory amendments; the Washburn Law Clinic; and the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office, where she prosecuted domestic violence cases.. After graduating from law school, Monica followed her dream of becoming a prosecutor. From 2008 until 2010, Monica was a Sedgwick County Assistant District Attorney, handling adult and juvenile misdemeanor and felony cases. Monica appeared in court on a daily basis and became known for her litigation skills. Frustrated with the politics of working in an elected office and the arbitrary sentencing guidelines imposed by the legislature, Monica chose to leave criminal law and open Cameron Law Office, P.A., in 2010.. While managing her own law practice, Monica became a well-respected Limited Case Manager, with experience mediating agreements in family law cases and testifying at trial in contested cases. In 2015, Monica earned the distinction of the TOP 10 UNDER 40 Attorney Award for the State of Kansas from the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys. Monica also earned the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys’ 2016 Top 10 Attorney’s Client Satisfaction Award. In 2016, Monica added a partner and the firm became Cameron & Herrman, P.A. The American Institute of Family Law Attorneys named Cameron & Herrman, P.A., one of the 10 Best Law Firms in Kansas in 2017 and 2019. In 2020, Monica formed a new law firm, Cameron Family Law, P.A.. When Monica is not in the courtroom, she enjoys spending time with her family and serving on the Board of Trustees for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the on the Executive Leadership Board for the LLS Light the Night Walk.
