He was also the owner of an income tax preparation firm, primarily responsible for income tax returns. For two years, he worked as a stockbroker and financial advisor at a large brokerage firm.. Mr. Amen obtained his undergraduate degree in History/Government from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, where he also obtained a commission in the Coast Guard. He went to law school at University of California, Hastings College of Law, in San Francisco and obtained his Juris Doctorate in 1982.. Mr. Amen and his wife are both originally from South St. Louis County and are Lindbergh High School graduates and currently live in Kirkwood with their family. He was active in Boy Scouts and is a former Cubmaster. Mr. Amen is also a Commander in the Coast Guard Reserves, serving as the St. Louis Legal Officer.. For recreation, Mr. Amen and his wife are in a bowling league. He is an avid stamp and coin collector and a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan..
