Nick travels regionally and focuses his law practice in estate planning, probate law, real estate law, land use law, business succession, real estate law, agricultural law and business/corporate law.  Nick represents a variety of clients, including individuals, title companies, banks, cities, counties, employers, businesses and farming families.  Nick is intricately involved in drafting complex estate plans and business succession plans, including the formation of family trusts and limited liability companies, corporationsand partnerships, in addition to drafting insurance trusts.. Minnesota Law and Politics Magazine named Nick a “Rising Star” three years in a row, an incredible honor named to attorneys.  Professionally, he currently serves as the Chair of the 7th District Fee Dispute Arbitration Committee.. Nick grew up in Alexandria, Minnesota and enjoys practicing law in the lakes area.  He graduated with honors from St. Cloud State University with an undergraduate degree in Political Science.  Nick earned his Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul and is licensed to practice in state and federal courts in Minnesota and North Dakota.. Nick is active in the community and currently participates in the Rotary Club, the Alexandria Housing Redevelopment Authority and his church.  Nick and his wife, Jennifer, and four children reside in the Alexandria area. Nick's interests include spending time with family, running, basketball, reading, and woodworking.. Nick serves both the Fergus Falls and Alexandria offices, as well as travels across the mid-State and North Dakota region, meeting with clients on their estate planning and business succession needs.

Ms. Burkhammer has been practicing law since 2006. She came to Alexandria in 2007, when she was hired as an Assistant Douglas County Attorney. She spent the next seven years prosecuting criminal cases for Douglas County. Over the course of her legal career, Ms. Burkhammer has tried more than a dozen criminal jury trials. In 2015, she was named “Prosecutor of the Year” by the Minnesota Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators for her work on an arson case. Ms. Burkhammer now puts her extensive litigation experience to work for the benefit of her criminal defense and family law clients at the Thornton Law Office.

I focus on assisting individuals to establish comprehensive estate and business plans. Often, the areas of estate planning, real estate, and business administration overlap and my expertise allows me to shepherd my clients through a complicated process of putting their affairs in order for their families and business relations. My goal is to explain matters in real-world language so that each client is comfortable with each step of the process - whether that be establishing a living trust, purchasing real estate, or administering a family business.

I love living in rural Minnesota.  I have been blessed with having the opportunity to live on a farm, in small communities, in metropolitan areas, and now in a rural setting.  Most of all, it is the sense of community, feeling connected to that community, and being able to 'give back' to the community, that has been a gift to me.

Greg has been with the Swenson Lervick law firm since 2014. He primarily handles prosecution cases as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Alexandria. Before starting with the firm, Greg served as a law clerk for the Honorable Ann L. Carrott in Alexandria.. Originially from New Jersey, Greg has spent a majority of his life in the Midwest. He graduated cum laude from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois with a double major in music and business administration. He earned his juris doctorate in 2012 from Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana, where he served as a Notes and Comments Editor for the Indiana Law Journal.. Greg is licensed to practice law in Minnesota, and is a member of the Douglas County Bar Association and the Minnesota State Bar Association. He is involved locally as President of the Central Lakes Symphony Orchestra Board and member of the board for the Viking Sportsmen. he is also active with the Alexandria Area Young Professionals, Leadership Alexandria, and Alexandria Rotary.. Greg and his wife, Lesley, can often be found camping, fishing, hiking, and enjoying everything the Alexandria area has to offer. They also perform frequently as violinists with the Central Lakes Symphony Orchestra and other local groups.
