I started my career working as a prosecutor in the Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office. From 2003 to 2007, I prosecuted cases ranging from simple misdemeanors to complex felonies. I came to the conclusion that the criminal justice system in Baltimore was disfunctional and often treated people unfairly, especially the poor and vulnerable. I left because I wanted to help people and because I did not want to continue to be part of the failed war on drugs.. I grew up in rural Tennessee, and my first career was in technology. I moved to Maryland to take a job at the University of Maryland College Park. I realized that I preferred working with people instead of computers and went to law school. After law school, life had another challenge for me and I had a battle with cancer. I am a Supervising County Attorney for Anne Arundel County, Maryland. I supervise the Litigation Unit which represents the County government and its employees in a most legal proceedings before state and federal courts.
