I'm a Maryland native, having been a member of the Baltimore Washington community my entire life, except for 3 years in law school at the Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law, Carlisle, Pa. campus. My life has always revolved around family, friends, church and academics of one form or another.. I am the eldest of four children. My Mother, my 2 younger sisters and their families live in Baltimore County, Maryland. My Mom, the youngest of 7 children, grew up on a tobacco farm in Prince Georges County. My Dad, now deceased many years, was a corporate executive. He was born in Queens, New York. My younger brother Danny died unexpectedly at age 27.. My husband Web passed unexpectedly in January 2016. That experience has made me very sensitive to my clients estate planning needs. I make sure my clients understand the estate planning and probate process and that their documents accurately reflect their planning wishes. Losing a loved one is hard enough. It gives me great satisfaction to know I help make sickness and loss of loved ones a little easier to bear by providing my clients complete and accurate documents tailored to their individual needs.. I am Mom to two "twenty something" children, my son Christopher who is "finding himself" in Cheyenne Wyoming, after graduating from Skyline High School, Front Royal, Va. graduate where he was Co-Captain of his varsity soccer team, and my daughter, Savannah, who lives in Edgewater, Md.. I love meeting new clients, interacting with current clients and facilitating successful resolution of various estate planning, education/special education and related family dynamics issues.. I have many interests and hobbies, including running (which has become "jogging"), biking, swimming and horseback riding. I play a little guitar and I "appreciate" many different music genres. I enjoy travelling. I love to read, write and learn about estate planning, business succession planning, education/special education and motivational issues. I am constantly seeking and implementing ways to improve my legal skills and legal service to my clients and to the community at large.. I have a particular passion for special needs and disability issues, including Special Needs Trusts with strong commitment to protect families and children with special education and special needs issues. My own personal and professional experience includes substantial special education and special needs issues. I am a very proud Mom to my 2 children adopted from St. Petersburg, Russia.. The business philosophy of Cox Law Group can be summarized in a recent quote from Jon Gordon, Author of "The Energy Bus": "The greatest marketing strategy of all is to do something great for another person." That is this law firm’s goal for each and every Cox Law Group client.
I still enjoy getting up each day, spending time at home with my family and friends and practicing law. About 50% of my work week is in court and the balance meeting with new clients and managing my office. There is nothing too trivial for a client in need. It is important to analyze the problem, find a solution and hopefully convey it quickly, efficiently and inexpensively to a client.. Our clients come from all walks of life as referrals from other clients and other attorneys. Our firm has grown to 10 attorneys and 10 administrative assistants. If our full service law firm can assist you please contact me.
I started my career working as a prosecutor in the Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office. From 2003 to 2007, I prosecuted cases ranging from simple misdemeanors to complex felonies. I came to the conclusion that the criminal justice system in Baltimore was disfunctional and often treated people unfairly, especially the poor and vulnerable. I left because I wanted to help people and because I did not want to continue to be part of the failed war on drugs.. In 2007, I was fortunate enough to join the Maryland Office of the Public Defender. I left in 2016 to start a private practice.. You can read more about me on my website .
I primarily focus on debtor-side bankruptcy. I handle approximately 200 bankruptcy cases a year and twenty adversary proceedings (lawsuits that arise in the context of a bankruptcy case). Each case is important and we treat chapter 7 clients with the same level of respect and care as corporate cases. I do not charge for the consultation and I'm always willing to find the best solution for my clients.
