Daniel Shawn Pickens was born and raised in Sheffield, AL, where he graduated from Sheffield High School in 2009. He earned his Associate of Applied Science in General Studies from Calhoun Community College while playing on the golf team. He then went on to The University of West Alabama. While there, he was inducted into the Blue Key Honor Society, earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance in 2019, and was named the University Scholar in Finance.. Mr. Pickens earned his J.D. from Birmingham School of Law in December 2022. While in law school, he was the recipient of the Outstanding 1L award, a member of the Judge Hugh Locke Honor Society, and was named a “BSL Star”. Once meeting the minimum hours needed, he was placed on the Dean’s List, and remained there until finishing in December 2022. He received the highest grade in the following courses: Torts I, Contracts I, Legal Methods, Civil Procedure I, Evidence I, and Domestic Relations.. Before Mr. Pickens decided to go back to school, he spent several years as a Firefighter, with over two of those years spent working for the City of Madison. While there, in addition to obtaining many technical certifications, he became an Advanced EMT.. Prior to joining Thigpen, Thigpen, Engelthaler, and Scott, Mr. Pickens spent over a year and a half as the women’s golf coach at Calhoun Community College. His players won several trophies during his time as coach and his team was named the ACCC Academic Team of the Year after his first year.. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, hiking, and reading.
