I was the first Texas attorney to become board certified in both civil appellate law and criminal appellate law.  I was one of only 16 attorneys who passed the Criminal Appellate Law certification exam when it was administered by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization for the first time in October 2011.  I then passed the Civil Appellate Law certification exam in 2012.. I have worked on numerous civil and criminal appeals and post-conviction writs in Texas, and I have argued cases at the state courts of appeals in Austin, San Antonio, Amarillo, Houston [1st Dist.], El Paso and Corpus Christi (sitting in Austin), as well as at the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans and before two federal district judges in Corpus Christi, one federal district judge in Brownsville, and one federal magistrate judge in Brownsville.. I was raised in the west Texas town of Abilene, where my dad was a Legal Aid Lawyer and my mom a probation officer for the county.  I received a Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Texas State University in 2000 and was a case manager for adults with developmental disabilities after college.  I graduated with honors from Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 2006.

I was raised in a family of farmers. We farmed green chilies, watermelons, pumpkins, dairies and more. Growing up in a small farming community, my family taught me to work hard, and be fair. But if I were to pick the “golden rule” from my upbringing, it would be that we take care of our family, no matter what. Now that I am raising a family of my own, I understand why.. After graduating from Oklahoma State with an Animal Science degree, I moved back home to help my father start his dairy nutrition company. After several years of hard work, the company finally became successful. I then shifted my attention to law school, and somehow managed to score in the top 1% on the entrance exams. As a result, I was able to attend the University of Texas School of Law after being awarded the Dean’s Presidential Scholarship, for which I am forever grateful.

I was born in Washington, D.C., and spent the first 10 years of my life on the east coast before moving to Texas in 1990. We settled in League City, Texas, where I went to elementary through high school before attending the University of Texas at Austin. In 2002, I finished my undergraduate education at Baylor University, where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with a concentration in Public Relations. In 2006, I obtained my J.D. from the University of Tulsa and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 2007.. My loving and beautiful wife, Jill, is a talented physical therapist. We moved to Austin for the rich history, scenic views, and beautiful weather and enjoy how active and alive the city is. We spend our free time running around Town Lake, checking out the local music and arts scene, and enjoying the local parks and lakes. Golf, barbeques, and watching football are my favorite pastimes.. Being able to represent individuals who have suffered an injury or other loss as a result of the irresponsibility of another was my motivation for going to law school.
