She was elected Vice President of Development for the Immigration Law Association (ILA) at UB Law, helping both to promote awareness of immigration law at the university and increase the amount of immigration pro bono work in the area. Her dedication to advocacy culminated in membership in the Stephen L. Snyder Center for Litigation Skills and a Certificate of Concentration in Litigation and Advocacy.. Sheri decided to open the Sheri Hoidra Law Office, LLC, because of her commitment to providing people an affordable alternative to “big law” without sacrificing quality legal work. Sheri’s areas of practice in Maryland include: Family Law, Criminal Law defense in MD District Courts, DUI/DWI defense, auto accident litigation, and will drafting. She practices immigration law at a national level, which is her lifelong passion. As an Iranian-American immigrant whose parents escaped the aftermath of the Iranian Revolution and sought asylum in the United States, Sheri is familiar with the difficulties involved in obtaining status in this country and truly sympathizes with her clients.
I sincerely believe that no person is illegal and that we need immigration reform to resolve a broken system. I consider immigration law to be a calling as part of a deeply held religious belief in the concept of Tikkun Olam, which in Hebrew means repair the world. No human has the right to tear apart families united by God and we must work within our legislative process and judicial decisions to change our immigration laws in an orderly process.. From 2009 through 2014, I served as an officer on the Executive Committee of the DC/MD/VA chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (including president) and am active in several immigrant rights organizations. I was a charter member of the Maryland State Bar Immigration Law Section and have served on the Advisory Council for seven years. I regularly speak to groups and write letters to public forums to educate the American public that immigration is not a dirty word.. I am currently a liaison between the Baltimore USCIS District office and the American Immigration Lawyers Association.. I teach immigration law at Stevenson University as an Adjunct Professor, teaching the next generation of paralegals and professionals why immigration law is integral to our society.. I self financed 100% of my education through four degrees in night school while working full time during the day. I therefore have a strong appreciation and affinity for self directed clients who seek a better life for themselves and their families. We are a team and your immigration issues are my issues.. We are all immigrants or descended from immigrants.
