She was extraordinarily sensitive, respectful, empathetic, and supportive in every way at a difficult time in our lives. I practice property and casualty insurance law. That means I deal with legal issues about insurance for things like cars, homes, businesses, professional malpractice, cyber insurance, that sort of thing. (One of the only major areas of insurance I do not do is health insurance. That's a whole other ballgame.) I represent insurance companies and insureds (people with insurance). My practice is split about sixty percent insurer and forty percent insured. I hope that my experience working in-house for major insurers, as a CPCU, and as a trial lawyer and small business owner help me provide better representation to my clients.. Most of my practice is coverage litigation --fighting over whether an insurance policy covers a loss. I also do bad faith litigation --fighting over whether an insurance company denied a claim in bad faith. And I do malpractice litigation --fighting over whether an insurance agent negligently failed to set up the insurance policy right.. I am also a trial lawyer. I try cases to verdicts. I've been doing it since the 80's.. I am also a mediator. I work for several local circuit courts to help mediate cases so they do not get to trial.. I have also served as an expert witness in litigation about insurance bad faith for both insurers and insureds.
I am a strong leader with a natural acumen for problem solving. I am a certified public accountant who gravitated to the practice of labor and employment law because I enjoy solving the daily legal issues that arise in the workplace through direct and regular contact between clients and their employees.. I have always emphasized the importance and value of relationship building over my 45 years in practice. By my peers and colleagues, I have been named a Maryland Super Lawyer for Employment and Labor (pictured above), Preeminently rated on AVVO, named a Top Rated Lawyer in Health Care by Martindale-Hubbell and elected to the Board of Directors of The Harmonie Group for a second term. My practice has continued to evolve and cover other areas such as insurance defense which involves litigation relating to the transportation industry, professional liability and general liability.

I am a member of Offit Kurman's Management Committee and a Regional Practice Group Director—a role which oversees many of the firm's legal service teams. Leveraging years of experience in real estate litigation, fair housing defense and business law, I serve as a trusted advisor to closely held businesses and organizations and local and regional management companies. I help my clients negotiate or litigate through legal obstacles and difficulties – without ever losing focus of cost benefit parameters. My clients have included property management industry leaders, managers and owners of residential and commercial real estate, C-level officers of small and mid-sized corporations, directors of not-for-profit organizations and individual clients seeking cost effective representation. Currently, I serve as General Counsel for Property Management Association, as well as the USA Bobsled & Skeleton Federation, where I also serve on the board of directors.. I am a trusted advisor to business leaders on all matters involving real estate, leases, construction, landlord–tenant disputes, fair housing investigations and litigation, mold and pest-infestation claims, business torts, defense of discrimination claims and business transactions. With a focus on building partnerships with the individuals and organizations with whom I work, I seek to advocate on my clients’ behalf through cost-effective representation, including offensive litigation when necessary. My experience as a litigator spans most trial courts in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Earlier in my legal career, I served as a special trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice.. A recognized authority on fair housing and landlord-tenant matters (commercial and residential), I lecture to local and national industry associations. I have partnered with industry leaders, such as Shari Solomon of CleanHealth Environmental, and Matt Paxton of Clutter Cleaner, to present seminars on mold and hoarding. Audiences for my speaking engagements have included Property Management Association (PMA), Apartment and Office Building Association (AOBA), the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), and the Mid-Atlantic Affordable Housing Management Association.
