I represent unions in labor law matters.  I also represent individuals in all types of employment-related matters, from drafting employment contracts to litigation.  In addition to my employment practice, I represent professionals (and in particular medical professionals) before licensing boards and commissions in both Oregon and Washington.. I am a deeply committed advocate for my clients and enjoy assisting them with their legal matters, whether it be through contract drafting, negotiation, or litigation.  I am also committed to serving my community and serve and have served on a variety of bar-related and legal organizations and as a volunteer in my community.

One of my main goals is to make the humbling experience of asking for help financially to be as straightforward and transparent as possible. I do my best to explain in clear and plain terms what the options are and what the potential results of those options may be. Once my client has made a decision on how he or she (or they) would want to proceed, I and my staff will do our best to guide and manage the process - eventually arriving at a light at the end of the tunnel.. I was a Scholastic Merit Graduate of Western State University College of Law, during which time I maintained a full academic scholarship. During this time I served as an editorial board member of the Law Review, was president of the school's chapter of the American Association of Justice, and clerked for the Honorable Richard T. Fields, then Presiding Judge of Riverside County, California.. Prior to his career in law, Mr. Adams worked for a number of large international promotional marketing companies who boasted clients such as Coca-Cola, Wal-Mart, R.J. Reynolds, McDonald's, IHOP, and T.G.I.Friday's.. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my lovely wife Bridget and my amazing son Pierce and I enjoy playing guitar in all sorts of musical genres.

Barbara Aaby graduated with Honors from Ohio State University (Summa Cum Laude) in 1973.  She was the recipient of the Maternal and Child Health Scholarship Award and pursued graduate studies at Case Western Reserve University earning a degree in Social Science Administration. In 1993, she obtained her law degree from Lewis and Clark College Northwestern School of Law. Barbara’s early years were spent on a small dairy farm in Ohio and this experience gave her an understanding of the challenges of organic farming and a healthy respect for nature.   Barbara has hiked many, if not most, of the trails in the Columbia River Gorge and she even managed to hike the Pacific Coast Trail on Vancouver Island.  She and her family frequently spend time camping on Mt. Hood, biking on bike trails throughout Oregon and gardening.. Barbara has been a member of the Oregon State Bar since 1993 and is a member of a number of legal organizations, including Oregon Women Lawyers and the Washington County Bar Association.  Barbara has in the past served as the Chair of the American Bar Association Committee on Child Custody.  She is a contributing author to the Oregon State Bar Family Law Continuing Legal Education Book and has authored topics such as  the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Act and parenting plans.. Barbara has in the past served as a volunteer judge for the High School Mock Trial Program as well as the Mock Trial program hosted by Lewis and Clark College.  Barbara serves on the Board of Trustees for the Washington County NAMI (National Association of Mental Illness) and is a strong supporter of providing mental health services for adolescents as well as adults.

As a native Oregonian I truly understand and appreciate the area in which my clients live and work.. My practice is primarily comprised of representing parents or children in cases where the State removes a child from his or her parents care.  In this area, an attorney must be able to work with parents, other attorneys as well as Department of Human Services caseworkers.  I often state that my job in this area is half lawyering and half social work.  In this area, I have been able to reach positive outcomes for the majority of my clients which include dismissal in the early stages of the case, a quick return home of the child if the State felt that a removal from the parents' care was necessary or fighting the strong arm of the State.. In addition to my work in juvenile law, I also practice in the areas of family law, criminal defense and adoptions.. Regardless of the reason why I represent you, I am dedicated to providing competent, compassionate, and zealous advocacy on your behalf.. Outside of the practice of law, I am a novice gardner, a prolific knitter and a proud dog owner.
