I have been an attorney for over 35 years and have been serving the Seattle metropolitan area for over 20 years. I graduated from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts with a B.A in history and later obtained my Juris Doctor from the University Of Maryland School of Law.. My legal career began with the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare as a lawyer representing the federal government in Black Lung suits. After a short time, I transitioned into representing the Welfare program in the Federal Court of Appeals. In my most cited case, Soberal-Perez v. Schweiker, I represented the Social Security Administration in a lawsuit over disability benefit notices being in languages other than English.. After I met my husband, we moved to Washington with our six children. I obtained a position with the Washington State Court of Appeals Division I as a staff attorney doing research and general support for the Court. I soon left the court in 1993 and pursued a career in the private sector with Culp, Guterson, and Grader and with Foster Pepper where I was of counsel. At Foster Pepper, I represented Eva Bandy in the nationally renowned case Bandy v. Bandy, dealing with wiretapping. After I left Foster Pepper in 1994, I decided to start my own firm, The Law Offices of Natalie de Maar.. My personal experience with divorce and raising my own children and step children has had a profound effect on my practice. I am a compassionate and skilled lawyer who is sensitive to my clients’ needs and tough in the courtroom. I have always been an entrepreneur. I had a lemonade stand at age 5, and by age 10 I started my own yard care business, Nicky's Lawnmowing Service. By middle school I was distributing a patented velcro product that my Uncle had made. In high school I helped manage the Student Store, joined the Marketing Club, and was President of Garfield High's chapter of DECA, an international business organization for students. I went on to major in Economics at Columbia University, and then returned to Seattle for law school and to be with my family. I graduated from UW Law with a juris doctor as well as a Masters of Laws in Taxation. In law school, I quickly discovered that it was unusual for a law student to enjoy working in Excel and manipulating numbers. I got hooked on business and tax classes.. I really enjoy running a small business - our law firm. I get to talk with clients every day and understand their legal needs. Seattle has been my home for nearly 3 decades. I love the seasons in Seattle, especially winter. My law partner (also my father) and I curl together at the Granite Curling Club in North Seattle. I am a Pacific Northwest native. I graduated from the University of Washington in 1983 and the University of California Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco in 1986. Upon graduation, I decided I wanted to serve the people with whom I grew up, so I moved back to the Seattle area and began a general law practice which provided a variety of legal services such as family law, estate planning, small business consulting, and workers’ compensation. However, I soon realized that the work I found most compelling was representing the injured, who were often in desperate need of assistance to rebuild their lives after suffering a career or life-altering injury.. In 1990, I changed my practice to solely represent the injured. The firm I founded has now grown to include three attorneys and 15 paralegals and office staff. Eight members of my team are also bilingual in Spanish. Our firm provides legal services to clients who have suffered injuries, either in an auto accident or other personal injury, or while on the job. We also now offer services to help people with social security disability benefits..
