This breadth of experience also serves my clients well in drafting sound legal documents and keeping my clients and their loved ones out of court. In litigation I saw the pitfalls and missteps that get people into expensive legal disputes. So I take care to understand my clients and their goals. And I put my 17 years of legal experience to work when I help them to plan their estate, manage a trust, probate a family member's estate, or enter into a business arrangement.. I care about my community. I see apathy and cynicism arise when people feel like their needs and opinions do not matter. So I spend my free time helping to build and strengthen community organizations that empower people to make a difference. With strong community ties, I am better able to help my clients understand what resources are available for them, and help them get what they need.. Education. My practice mostly focuses on personal injury cases - think car crashes, an injury due to a badly designed sidewalk or road, or a bicycle crash. I also advise clients on tenant side landlord/tenant issues and other general civil litigation matters. I beleive that good advocacy is about a listening ear, good relationships, and a good balance between standing up for rights and a focus on desired outcomes. I try to work things out amicably, but I will always fight for my clients when I need to.. I'm a native of Bellingham. Prior to more scholarly pursuits, I worked at ski areas and bike shops around the Northwest and Alaska. I'm an avid mountain biker, skier, and outdoorsman, so I appreciate how difficult it is for clients when their lives have been affected by injury. I strive to help client’s deal with injury and provide low-stress representation to guide them through the process of both financial and physical recovery.

My practice focuses on Elder Law but I handle estate planning and related matters for clients of all ages. Elder law primarily encompasses estate planning, probate, guardianship, special needs planning, and elder protection. I am Certified Elder Law Attorney.*  This certification is given by the National Elder Law Foundation only after meeting rigorous testing and experience criteria.   It is exceptionally rewarding to provide guidance and support for clients as they face the complicated issues associated with aging. The work is made even more enjoyable by the amazing team at the Elder Law Offices of Meyers, Neubeck and Hulford and I enjoy coming to work every day to see both my co-workers and clients.    Before coming to the Elder Law Offices of Meyers, Neubeck and Hulford,  I was in-house counsel for the Lummi Nation with a practice focusing on human resource issues, governmental administration and criminal prosecution.  When I am away from work, I spend a lot of time riding bicycles in the woods.. *The State Supreme Court of Washington does not recognize certification of specialists in the practice of law and that certificate, award or recognition is not a requirement to practice law in the state of Washington.

I’d like to tell you a story about why I help people who have claims against insurance companies.  Its 1991 and I’m a law student living out-of-state when my mom calls to tell me she’s been burglarized.  She is scared and upset.  Fortunately nothing sentimental is stolen.  I naively tell mom that her homeowners insurance will compensate her for the things that were taken.. It turns out that the claim process is more upsetting for mom than the break in.  They make her jump through all kinds of unnecessary hoops and try to low ball her on the value of the claim.  The insurance company, who she has been with for over 20 years, treats her like she did something wrong.. I do everything I can to help, but at this time I don’t really know how insurance companies work and what can be done to make them to treat mom fairly. We feel helpless at the company’s “take it or leave it” attitude.. Over the past 20 years, I have learned how to level the playing field for people like my mom.  In the courthouse, insurance companies have to answer to a jury, not shareholders.  While most cases do not go to trial, you need the leverage of a trial to make them treat you fairly.. If you have been injured through no fault of your own and are facing an insurance company alone, please give me a call. I’d be glad to help.
