Established in 1961, John B. Daugherty, P.L.C., Attorney at Law, is a general law practice serving Benzie, Leelanau, Grand Traverse, Wexford and Manistee Counties and beyond.As a third-generation attorney, Mr. Daugherty’s own background as an attorney spans over 30 years.  Mr.  Daugherty has extensive experience in circuit, district, and probate courts.  During his years of practice, he has handled or been responsible for thousands of cases before the courts.  As a defense attorney and former prosecutor, he has handled cases ranging from traffic tickets to murder.Mr. Daugherty is a graduate of Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and an honors graduate (cum laude) of  Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Lansing, Michigan.  He was a member of the Cooley Law Review and subsequently worked in the then Cooley Clinic.  He later wrote for the Planning and Zoning News.Mr. Daugherty has served on numerous non-profit boards.  He has also assisted numerous non-profit organizations in their formation and obtaining 501(c)(3) status. Professionally he is a member of the Michigan Bar Association and Benzie County Bar Association where he has served as president and vice-president.  Mr. Daugherty also served as a member of the State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly for a number of years.Criminal defense, real property law, business law, estate planning & administration, and trust administration are areas emphasized in the practice.
