My father has practiced personal injury law for half a century, helping
thousands of individuals.  In 1996, I joined him in his practice after
working for a larger firm for four years.  Many of the clients we
represent cannot afford an attorney, and there is nothing better than
helping a family recover what they have lost, especially if it is from
a large corporation which was clearly in the wrong.Helping
people is what our firm does.  Whether it's recovering money to help
make life easier, getting justice for someone when the criminal system
doesn't work, or simply getting a refund for someone on a vehicle which
is a lemon, I enjoy helping people.  We recently tried a case for a
family whose daughter was tragically killed in an automobile
collision.  The defendant didn't have enough insurance, and the family
wasn't concerned about money.  They simply wanted justice.  They had
lost their daughter forever, and this young man was going to move on
with his life without any form of punishment for his wrongful conduct.
The family asked us to pursue the case through trial so that at the
very least there would be a judgment on his record.  That's what we
did.  We tried the case to a jury and won.  The family was grateful
that we took on this challenge when other attorneys turned them down
simply because there was not enough money in it.  When we have clients
thank us for helping them, we are rewarded in a way that you really
cannot describe.. PersonalI spend most of my spare time with my wife
and three children.  Much of that time involves little league sports.

The deafening crunch of metal and fiberglass, the sickening sensation of momentum suddenly halted, and the surreal moments that followed are forever etched in Jamiel’s memory. While traveling westbound on I-20 through Birmingham, Alabama, Jamiel’s life changed in an instant when a passenger vehicle collided with his tractor-trailer at a high speed in a disastrous crash that could have claimed his life. Jamiel often recounts the crash as “the moment time stood still”—undoubtedly the most terrifying experience he has ever endured. This brush with tragedy transformed not just his personal outlook, but the very foundation of how he approaches his work with clients. When Jamiel sits across from someone describing their own truck accident trauma, there’s no need to imagine their fear or pain—he has lived it. This profound personal understanding creates an immediate connection with clients that transcends the typical attorney-client relationship, allowing him to advocate with a rare combination of legal experience and genuine empathy that only comes from walking the difficult path of recovery himself.. Jamiel is an advocate who brings authentic commercial driving credentials to your fight for justice. As a holder of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), he possesses an in-depth understanding of the complexities of the trucking industry and the regulations governing it. This experience and insight allows him to uncover crucial details in truck crash cases that may otherwise be overlooked, giving his clients a significant advantage. I was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1986, after graduating from Cumberland Law School in Birmingham, Alabama, that same year. Prior to attending law school, I received a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, and was licensed and worked as a Registered Nurse in Alabama, Colorado, and California. After completing law school, I began the practice of law with a small firm in Andalusia, Alabama, where I hoped to put my knowledge of medicine to use as a trial lawyer. I was extremely fortunate to work for and learn from one of the pioneers in Alabama personal injury law, Frank Tipler. During this time, my practice included cases involving medical malpractice, products liability, motor vehicle accidents, and worker’s compensation.. In 1990, I returned to Birmingham. For the next twelve years, I continued to represent personal injury clients and injured workers, but also began representing the interests of the disabled. In particular, I began representing individuals seeking Social Security disability benefits and individuals whose benefits had been denied by long-term disability insurance companies. My background in medicine was particularly well suited to these cases which almost always involve medical problems.. In January 2003, I formed the Pennington Law Firm, L.L.C., where I continue to focus on protecting the rights of the disabled, and continue to represent people with claims against long-term disability insurance companies. This includes individual claims, as well as those governed by the Employees Retirement Income Security Act (“ERISA”). I have been litigating claims against long-term disability carriers for over 25 years.. I also continue to represent claimants seeking disability benefits under the Social Security Act, including claims for SSI and Disability Insurance Benefits. Since 1990, I have represented several thousand Social Security disability benefit claimants. I frequently receive referrals of disability cases from other attorneys, as well as from health care professionals. I represent Social Security claimants at both the Administrative and Federal Court levels. I frequently represent claimants before the Administration in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, and Tennessee.. I am currently is admitted to practice in all State Courts in Alabama, the Federal Courts for the Northern, and Middle Districts of Alabama, the Northern District of Florida, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

I grew up in tiny Livingston, on the western edge of Alabama’s Black Belt, and has carried forward the small-town values of hard work, respect, and fairness into his law practice.. I graduated from the University of Alabama twice — with an undergraduate degree in business in 1998 and with a law degree in 2002. After receiving his J.D., he joined a Birmingham insurance defense firm, where he stayed for five years until he realized that he wanted to work on behalf of injured people instead of insurance companies.. I enjoyed the experience there in the sense that I learned a lot and it made me a better attorney. I don’t know if I’d be as good at what I do now but for the experience of seeing how the other side evaluates things, and the things that scare them. But you’re representing corporations, and your point of contact is an insurance adjuster who’s not concerned about anything but reports and evaluations that aren’t really concerned about right or wrong.. I crossed over to the plaintiff side of the law, joining a Montgomery law firm that concentrated in that area. I stayed there for three years, then ventured out on his own and joined forces with an old law school friend, in 2013. Together we formed the Serious Injury Law Group.. My practice focuses solely on personal injury cases, and he has achieved some significant outcomes on behalf of his clients. They include a medical malpractice jury verdict of $3.5 million and multiple seven-figure settlements in medical malpractice and trucking cases.. My goal is for each client to get the highest level of legal services and personal attention from my firm.

I am a personal injury attorney who enjoys representing people that have been injured in almost any type of incident.  Before I represented injured persons, I previously represented the people/companies doing the injuring.  In other words, I was hired by insurance companies to defend their insureds in personal injury cases.  Thus, I have the distinct advantage and somewhat unique perspective of having previously been a defense lawyer.  I am able to use that experience and perspective to help the people I reprsent now.. Although I handle more car/truck/motorcycle wrecks than anything else, I particularly like to represent injured cyclists given that I am an avid cyclist myself.  In addition, I have handled several other type of cases including dog-bite cases, mis-filled prescription cases, slip/trip and fall cases, as well as some product and employment liability cases.. In addition to cycling, I enjoy going on hiking trips with my wife.   Another activity that I enjoy is playing table tennis and I am activily involved in a table tennis league.  Swimming, working - out and reading kind of round out my hobbies.. My 3 children are now all in college so planning trips to see them is fun.  I've thought about getting a dog to have around the house, but not yet ready to make that committment.
