Whenever someone asks me where I am from, I respond that I grew up in southeastern North Carolina on dirt road. Folks from the nearby town, Whiteville, which isn’t much bigger, used to say they had to pipe the sunshine into where I lived.. By growing up in a small rural township with economic hardships, I learned so many lessons about the power of community working together to lift one another up—particularly in times of need. In my professional experience, I find that people often seek out a lawyer when they are experiencing some form of suffering and searching for a solution. I believe compassion is the necessary foundation an attorney needs in order to become part of the solution. The power of compassion is a guiding principle in my life and has led me to my professional journey today.. After attending Wake Forest University and earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology, I decided to attend law school after shadowing my uncle in his law firm for several summers. He had a thriving Social Security Disability practice which I admired and felt comfortable working in that area of the law. Although I had originally intended to work as a District Attorney, I discovered that was not my path. Instead, I accepted the challenge of leading a growing firm’s Social Security Disability practice where I remained at the helm for over 17 years. I feel privileged to have been able to help so many people navigate a very complex appeal process and secure the benefits they had earned.. Now, I am answering a call to continue helping people navigate other difficult and complex areas of the law known as Elder Law. I believe my knowledge, skills, values, and experiences will enable me to help seniors and their families find solutions for some of the most difficult times of life.. When not working, I enjoy exploring our beautiful state and taking photographs of nature and family. I also enjoy singing with my church choir, playing my trumpet and hanging out with my daughter, Ella, and our dog, Tilly.

Jackie Bedard's estate and long-term care planning practice is focused on guiding clients through the complicated, often confusing, maze of balancing family protection, long-term care planning, wealth preservation, and cherished family values in the planning process.. Jackie determined early on that traditional estate planning has primarily focused on what happens upon death, but a far more pressing concern for many families today is—what happens if you don’t die suddenly, but instead need long term care for several months or years?  A comprehensive estate and long-term care plan should address both of these concerns.. Jackie is a member of WealthCounsel and ElderCounsel (national organizations of attorneys committed to client-centered estate planning and elder care planning). Jackie has served as a board of director member of the North Carolina chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the board of trustees of Hospice of Wake County Foundation, the board of directors of local non-profit the Guiding Lights Caregiver Support Center, and the board of the Raleigh-Durham Chapter of Entrepreneur's Organization. She is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, and the Wake County Bar Association. Jackie was named one of Cary Magazine's 2015 Movers & Shakers. Selections were based on professionals impacting Wake County, both now and for the future. Jackie has been voted Best Attorney in the Cary Magazine's Maggy Awards for 2016-2021.. Jackie earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and graduated law school magna cum laude in the top 7% of her class at the University of Richmond, School of Law.. In addition to being a lawyer, Jackie is also a Certified Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Trainer and a Certified Dementia Practitioner.. Jackie resides in Cary with her husband, Dan, and their two dogs, Nala and Maggie. Jackie also enjoys hiking, traveling, reading, cooking, music, and more.

Firm: Privette Legacy Planning

As an estate planning attorney, my favorite part of my job is getting to know my clients and their families, talking with them about the type of legacy they want to leave, and then working with my clients to plan for their life, secure their loved ones' futures, and preserve their family story.. I began my legal career as a paralegal for a well-respected family law firm in Raleigh, North Carolina. Through my many years working as a paralegal, I was able to gain valuable insight, not only into the mechanics of working with clients during some of the worst times of their lives, but also the significant impact legal professionals can have on their clients. My compassionate and empathetic nature made me a lifeline for my clients. The skills and traits that I developed and honed over those years now serve me well in my work as an estate planning attorney.. I attended law school at Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach. Although living in Virginia Beach was wonderful, the pull of family back home was too great. My decision to return to home was validated when my father was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia just months after I finished from law school. Building a law practice while being "on call" to help my mother care for my ailing father was not easy, but there were many precious moments with Dad during his 4-year journey with Lewy Body Dementia that I would not trade for anything. My experience with my father makes me even more passionate about helping people plan for whatever life throws their way!

Abbey Hudson first joined Carolina Family Estate Planning as a Law Clerk before passing the bar exam and joining the firm as an Estate Planning and Elder Law Attorney.. Abbey attended North Carolina State University for her undergraduate degree (Go Pack!). She has always loved the Raleigh area, so attending NC State was a no-brainer. Abbey decided to stick around Raleigh after graduation to attend law school at Campbell University School of Law.. Probably the most frequently asked question a law student gets is "What type of law do you want to practice after graduation?" During her first year of law school, this was a tough question for Abbey to answer. For her own peace of mind, she knew she had to choose a path that would let her serve others and have a positive impact on those around her. In her own words, "It all clicked," when she started at Carolina Family Estate Planning. The field of Estate Planning allows her to pursue her passion for helping others every single day.. As much as Abbey has fallen in love with Raleigh’s atmosphere and "Big City" vibe, she still loves her hometown of Greenville, North Carolina. She drives back frequently to enjoy some Eastern NC BBQ—the absolute best there is, no arguments permitted—and to attend East Carolina Football games with hometown friends. Besides these activities, Abbey also enjoys traveling to Atlantic Beach for relaxing beach weekends with friends and family.
