Born and raised in the Midwest, I attended Miami University and graduated with a B.A. in Political Science, and a Minor in Entrepreneurship. Following college, I relocated to the Lowcountry in 2010 hoping to make it my permanent home.. I attended the Charleston School of Law and graduated with my Juris Doctorate in 2013. While in law school, I was elected as an Editor for the Federal Courts Law Review. Additionally, I helped found the school’s Trial Advocacy Board and served as one its first executive board members while also competing around the country in mock trial competitions. During law school, I gained vital legal experience working as a Federal Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Karen K. Caldwell in the Eastern District of Kentucky and as a Research Assistant for Law Professor Miller W. Shealy. I perfomed well in school, making Dean’s List and winning CALI awards in his Admiralty Law and Mass Torts Seminar classes.. Following law school, I was admitted to practice law in South Carolina and soon after accepted a position to work as an Assistant Solicitor for Ninth Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson in her Charleston office. I started my career as an Assistant Solicitor prosecuting a wide range of misdemeanor and low level felony offenses ranging from property crimes to DUI’s to drug possession. It was during this time that I began honing my trial and litigation skills. After several successful trials as lead counsel while maintaining a high conviction rate, my caseload quickly shifted towards more serious cases. I was elevated to prosecuting primarily violent crime cases including Murder, Armed Robbery, and Felony DUI. I also served as the lead Animal Cruelty Prosecutor for Charleston County. Ted served as lead counsel in several high-profile cases including the Murder of Eric Brantley, the Felony DUI death of nine year old Da’Vieona Hamilton, and the animal cruelty abuse case of Caitlyn The Dog.. In December 2018, I left the Solicitor’s Office to help found Kidd Corvey & Simpson. During my time at the Solicitor’s Office, I took great pride in serving the Charleston community as a trial prosecutor and hope to continue serving while in private practice by helping the injured and those who have lost their way get back on their feet. As former prosecutor and through my trial experience, I know the pitfalls many litigants can find themselves in. I am always available to my clients, and pride myself aggressive by client focused representeation. My practice will primarily focus on Personal Injury, CriminalDefense, DUI Defense, General Litigation, and Family Law.
Ben Traywick is a trial lawyer who represents clients in matters relating to personal injury and wrongful death; defective construction and contractor/developer negligence; investment fraud and money manager negligence/misrepresentation; probate and contested will claims, and various other matters. He has been lead counsel in more than a dozen trials seen through to verdict, in both state and federal courts in South Carolina.. Practicing law in his hometown of Charleston, Ben has a lifetime's worth of great friends and his entire family: parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and his own lovely wife and two little girls. Yet unlike many "locals", Ben embraces the wave of new arrivals the Charleston area has seen in recent years from all over the country. In his view the new folks bring new energy and new ideas which keep the scene here vivid and interesting. In recent years Ben has represented clients hailing from Washington and California, Massachusetts and New York, and of course many from across South Carolina.. Outside of work Ben reads as many good books as possible, wets a fishing line here and there, and hones his chronically mediocre home improvement skills. He serves his neighborhood civic club as its treasurer and attorney, his church on its vestry and as lector, his town on its Historical Commission, and his colleagues in the South Carolina Bar in its House of Delegates.

"Whether it's an individual or a corporation, we don't like them being taken advantage of," Ellis says. "If there's a victim, whether it's an individual or a company, I want to represent them. I want them to see justice, whether it's financial compensation or otherwise.". Ellis is known as an even-tempered person, but he admits that he can sometimes be more aggressive in court and in dealing with opposing counsel when the situation warrants.. "I'm very competitive and my partners are too," he says. "We may raise our voices from time to time, but it's not about being uncivil, it's about being passionate about what we do and making sure our clients are taken care of.". In 2021, Ellis brought his practice back to the city where he learned the law when the firm opened a second office in Columbus. He’s proud to fight for underdogs throughout both West Virginia and Ohio.
