I was born in Chicago Illinois, and had a great childhood in Chicago in a large family. When I graduated high school I worked three years in a steel mill while attending college part-time. I eventually joined the military to finish my schooling on the GI bill. In the Army, I worked as an operating room technician (handing the surgical instruments to the surgeon) for 3 and 1/2 years in a military hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii (a wonderful assignment as you might expect). As planned, I finished schooling after I left the military, and the GI bill funded my tuition all the way through law school at Southern Illinois University. I am forever grateful that I was afforded that luxury that so many others are not. Upon my graduation from law school in 1986, I returned to the U.S. Army as a JAGC attorney, where I practiced as a criminal defense attorney at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky for three years. Upon my discharge in 1990, I entered private practice first in Nashville, Tennesseee for three years, then in Chattanooga, where I have remained for the past 20 years. I love Chattanooga, and I am very impressed with the legal history and traditions of our town, and the first rate judiciary our town seems to consistently produce. Having worked in so many other jurisdictions, I am keenly aware how lucky Chattanooga is to have such a friendly, competent bar, and fair, concerned judges. My staff and I try our best to honor and uphold the high standards of the Hamilton County courts, and we will do our best to help every client that puts their faith in us.
I truly enjoy using the law to help people through difficult times in their lives. Whether you've been accused of a crime, need a divorce, have an issue involving the custody or care of your children, or you've been injured as the result of another person's negligence, I can help you get the result you want. I chose to focus my practice in the areas of Criminal Defense, Family Law and Personal Injury because those are the areas in which people in my community need the most help.. There's nothing more satisfying than helping people regain or maintain their freedom. Just because you're accused of a crime, doesn't mean you should have to go to jail.. Helping people get to the other side of their divorce—to a place where they can move on, and raise their children as they wish—is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.. You probably already know how difficult it is to get an insurance company to pay you when they should, which is why I thoroughly enjoy forcing them to do so when a client of mine has been injured.
I regularly volunteer by conducting training sessions on professionalism, interviewing and resumes for students at local universities in the Chattanooga area.
I recently joined Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel law firm as an associate in its business section. I focus my practice in the areas of commercial and business transactions, environmental and regulatory law, and general business law.

I love helping my clients battle big corporations or massive bureaucracies to get the benefits they deserve, which is why I love working at Eric Buchanan and Associates, where fighting for my clients is what I get to do every single day.. Before joining this firm, I spent my first four years as an attorney in civil litigation, and enjoyed significant success in jury, bench and Claims Commission trials for both claimants and defendants. I also was privileged to act as lead brief-writer for many appeals, including a successful appeal to the Tennessee Supreme Court, which ultimately led to major changes to Tennessee’s insurance law (Allstate Ins. Co. v. Tarrant, 363 S.W.3d 508 (Tenn. 2011)). I also was heavily involved in several high profile cases involving intricate legal and factual issues and many millions of dollars.. At Eric Buchanan & Associates, I am able to use my litigation background and experience to effectively battle behemoths and win benefits for my clients. I love the personal character of my disability practice, which lets me watch my work turn directly into immediate and incredibly positive changes for my clients. I have always known that I am a "crusader" by nature, which is why I like nothing better than battling giants for my clients for my clients every day.. I also enjoy technology (i.e. I have strong nerd tendencies), and I recently learned computer code in order to develop Job Sleuth, an iPhone app for Social Security Disability Practitioners that gives instant and complete access to the Dictionary of Occupational Titles whenever and wherever they have their phone at hand.. In addition to my job, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two girls, playing hockey, reading, and playing practically any game that involves strategy. I love my alma mater Bryan College, in Dayton, Tennessee, and while studying there enjoyed playing as a scholarship pitcher and third baseman.

To the fullest extent of the law and considering my clients' facts, I work hard to achieve their goals and desired outcomes.
I have learned over the time I have been a lawyer that good people fall on hard times and make mistakes. When they do, they need someone who will be there for them to help them out. I have also learned that law enforcement and the district attorney do not necessarily fill the role most of us were taught they filled when we were growing up. Abuse of power is rampant, and many in our system have forgotten their role is to seek justice, not exact vengeance.. My education and background has led me to want to help people that make mistakes and protect them from those who want vengeance, not justice. I enjoy fighting for my clients and making sure I do whatever it takes to legally and ethically protect them and advance thier interests.
