Experienced attorney representing clients in complex business and litigation matters in federal and state courts, as well as arbitrations and administrative proceedings. Outside of litigation, my practice includes advice and counsel to individuals, businesses, and trustees on a host of matters - always approached with the goal of developing practical, reasoned, and efficient strategies and solutions to the issue, risk, or problem at hand. Over the past 17 years, I have developed significant experience in such areas as business emergencies and crisis management, internal investigations, employment and restrictive covenant matters, insurance coverage and fraud cases, trade secret violations, consumer fraud and deceptive practices issues, and landlord-tenant disputes. Lately, my primary focus and challenge has been on the representation and defense of municipalities, police departments, and individual police officers against alleged unconstitutional conduct and policies – often brought in a class-wide action.
Experience, With Energy: I believe the right attorney for your case is the attorney with the experience to know what he is doing, but the energy to relentlessly attack. Many attorneys are reactionary, meaning they wait for the other side’s attorney or the prosecutor to act first. I despise that mentality. A real, true attorney is the one who has the experience to know how to press the other side to get results, with the energy to sustain that fight for his client.. It’s Personal: My sustained fight for my clients is personal. Ask any attorney you are looking to hire if it is personal. See what they say.. After graduating from UW-Milwaukee in 2008, I moved to Chicago. Going to work one morning, I was struck by a car. I did what any person would do. I Googled personal injury attorneys and hired one who came up. I was not an attorney yet, but something seemed off when that attorney only wanted to settle. How? I was still in physical therapy and accumulating medical bills that would not be part of his settlement. I fired him. By that time, I was in law school, so I wrote my own lawsuit and won. After that, I made a promise to myself that I would never be like that attorney I initially hired. That I would fight for my clients at every turn, always keeping them informed in the process.. My Start: In 2012, I graduated from Chicago-Kent, a law school known for its legal writing program and ranked in the top five of all law schools for trial advocacy. In that top trial law school, of more than three hundred graduating classmates, I was the first attorney admitted to the federal trial bar because of the high volume of trials I had successfully completed in Illinois state court at such an early stage in my career.. For over three years, I was constantly in the courtroom, loving every moment representing my clients, getting wins, and gaining so much experience in civil litigation and criminal defense. For better or worse, I had an itch I had to scratch. After court one day, I went to visit an old professor who was a retired Cook County judge. I told him how I always wanted to join the military, but I was getting so many courtroom wins that it was hard to step away. He told me, “Anthony, if you are going to do it, do it now, or you will be sixty-five at your desk and wonder if you could have.”. My Army Adventures: I had the option to become an officer right away because I was already an attorney. However, I wanted to try out to be an Army Ranger. The only guarantee I had to get a tryout was to enlist, so I entered Basic Training in January 2016, no longer called Attorney Villalobos by judges, but Specialist Villalobos by Drill Sergeants. After completing all of my prerequisite training, I showed up to the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program (RASP) as the oldest Soldier trying out for the 75th Ranger Regiment. I survived selection, and signed into Alpha Company, 3rd Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment as a thirty-one-year-old forward observer. It was painfully amazing; still in touch with the boys today. After two combat zone deployments, I left Special Operations in 2019 to get back to practicing law.. After the Judge Advocate Basic Officer’s Course, I reported to The United States Military Academy (“West Point”), for my first Judge Advocate General (JAG) position. I was selected to serve as the sole Special Victims’ Counsel (SVC), representing victims of sex crimes and domestic violence. As an SVC, I learned so many things that go into the criminal investigation process, the decision whether or not move a case to court-martial, and what motivates people to report sex crimes and domestic violence.. With my prior Chicago trial experience, my special operations background, and my SVC time I had to go to a courtroom. My next JAG assignment was as a Trial Defense Services (TDS) attorney at Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg), which is the largest U.S. military installation. I handled over fifty court-martials in two years and countless separation boards, Article 15s, and other matters Soldiers unfortunately have to face. From the results I was getting and my experience, I was placed as a trial team leader to lead trial strategy and train my younger colleagues. Of all the “thank you, sir” and “no one believed me but you, sir” statements I got from my clients after our wins, the statement I loved the most was from a prosecutor on the other side: Anthony, our entire office gets nervous when we see you are the defense attorney on the case. Making prosecutors nervous that you are the defense attorney who is going to uncover the truth and get the not guilty for your client is the greatest feeling.. My parting gift to the Army’s criminal defense unit was a massive document I compiled, using all I had learned from my Chicago courtroom days, victim representation days, and Army criminal defense days. That document and my insider knowledge were distributed in the TDS mass letter that goes to all Army defense attorneys and my work is still used today.. The premier JAG job is advising commanders. Having a chance to return back to Chicago, my final JAG position was serving as a command legal advisor at the MEPS headquarters. That position allowed me to touch on legal investigations and actions for every service of the Department of Defense: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. I gained so much experience seeing what commanders want investigated and what actions or non-actions they want to take after an investigation into a servicemember. Getting to guide commanders in the legal process, from court martials to non-judicial punishment to separation boards, was invaluable.. Experience, With Energy: All of that experience – my own personal injury case success, all of my Chicago civil and criminal trials, special operations and combat deployments, representing crime victims, defending Soldiers, advising military commanders – every piece of it is brought with absolute energy when I represent someone. I know what it is like to see your name on a court document. It can be intimidating. You do not have to go it alone. Contact me and we will aggressively tackle everything together to see you to the success I found because I have the experience to see you there, with the energy to accomplish it.
Even at the start of her family law career in 1995 as a fierce litigator at a well-known matrimonial firm in Chicago, deep down Nanette knew she would be most effective at helping families if she led her own firm. Elizabeth Kaveny during her professional career has obtained numerous verdicts and settlements of plaintiff personal injury and professional malpractice actions, each in excess of $1 million and some at more than $10 million. She is widely respected for her success at securing just compensation for her clients in such complex, medically related matters as misdiagnosis and failure to diagnose, which carry a high burden of proof to demonstrate negligence. For example, she and former partner Kevin Burke secured a $12 million settlement from a Glenview, Illinois, hospital for a client who suffered severe injury and trauma due to misdiagnosis and delayed treatment. She was one of the first attorneys in the country to file suit against New England Compounding Center (NECC) in Massachusetts on behalf of a number of victims in the outbreak of fungal meningitis traced to contaminated steroid injections. Beth is equally effective in proving liability to secure redress for clients’ injuries and medical expenses sustained from the negligence of others that contributed to falls, fires and vehicular accidents.. Such clients value Beth’s personal approach to building a working relationship with them. As a self-described “people person,” Beth strives to build the kind of trust accorded a family member, visiting clients in their homes and learning about their families and situations in detail. She emphasizes knowing her clients thoroughly, to build the foundation for the kind of credibility that leads to trial effectiveness. Because she is representing clients and families who have suffered major injury and loss, Beth approaches personal injury litigation as the opportunity to ensure that those who depend on her are not victimized by the legal system. Although she is always open to and effective at resolving a matter short of trial if it is in her client’s best interest to do so, Beth has an exceptional record of success in the courtroom. An important element of that success is her ability to blend time-tested trial skills with the application of innovative technology (including pioneering use of PowerPoint presentations) to help juries better understand key issues.. Her professional peers accord Beth the highest recognition for her litigation effectiveness. The peer-selected Leading Lawyers has named her one of the state’s Top 10 women litigators, Top 10 women personal injury lawyers and Top 10 women consumer lawyers in personal injury and professional malpractice law. She has also been named one of the Top 50 Illinois Women Lawyers by Illinois Super Lawyers. In 2013 Beth was designated by Thomson Reuters and Chicago Magazine as one of “The Top Women Attorneys in Illinois” in the areas of personal injury plaintiff – medical malpractice; personal injury plaintiff – general; and general litigation. Such recognition reflects the fact that she has received Super Lawyer designation by her professional peers in every year beginning in 2006.. In a profile of Beth, the Chicago Tribune noted that “Chicago’s most powerful medical malpractice plaintiff’s law firms rarely have women as named partners,” but she became a founding name partner of her own firm after just 10 years in practice, and joined Burke Wise Morrissey Kaveny as a named partner in 2010. Further emphasizing such accomplishments, Crain’s Chicago Business in 2013 singled out Beth among established Chicago personal injury lawyers under the age of 50 for having an active trial practice, noted her as “an exception to the general rule [that] … not many top personal injury attorneys are women,” and listed four recent successes in which she secured well over $20 million on behalf of her clients.. Perhaps equally important is that Beth’s record of accomplishment coincides with her personal responsibilities as a parent of four young children, which contributes to the empathy she brings in counseling the families that seek her help.. Beth is involved in a wide range of professional activities. She has served in leadership positions in the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and is President and a member of the board of directors of the Illinois Bar Foundation, and she serves on the nominating committees of both organizations to help select their future leadership. She has been a director of the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois and frequently speaks on litigation-related topics before those and other organizations. Beth is a Fellow of the prestigious International Society of Barristers. She has taught courses at the National Institute of Trial Advocacy and, for more than 15 years, has been both an instructor in trial advocacy at Loyola University of Chicago Law School and an adjunct professor of trial advocacy at Northwestern University Law School. Beth served as President of the Chicago Chapter of the American Inns of Court for the organization’s 2014 to 2015 membership year. In October 2014 Beth was one of five women to receive the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois’ 2014 Top Women Lawyers in Leadership award.

His legal experience also includes the defense of manufacturers in product liability litigation and corporations and individuals in class action litigation, including class action claims for alleged violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and the Chicago Residential Landlord Tenant Ordinance. He also represents several condominium associations on corporate and litigation affairs and employers in various state and federal court proceedings in cases involving discrimination, sexual harassment and retaliation. Ted has been named to the Super Lawyers Rising Stars list as one of the top attorneys in Illinois for 2013 in the field of professional liability litigation. Ted is a published author and frequent lecturer on professional liability topics and has been invited to speak at DRI's Professional Liability Seminar in New York this December on How To Avoid Lawsuits at the Pre-Suit Stage. Ted received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and graduated from the University of Illinois College Of Law, magna cum laude, where he was a Harno Scholarship recipient, a Rickert Scholar for Oral Advocacy and a recipient of the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Evidence. Ted also served on Illinois' Moot Court Board of Editors and was a regional champion and national finalist in the HNBA Moot Court Competition, where he placed third nationally with thirty-four teams competing.. Ted's tactics and strategies are considered, measured and imaginative. He does not confine himself to the drop-down menus of tactics that most lawyers consider, instead stepping outside the box, sometimes way outside, to ensure that his clients get what they both expect and deserve. Prior to joining Meyer Law Group, LLC in 2013, Ted spent eight years defending professionals and representing corporations and individuals in a wide array of commercial disputes at a mid-sized professional liability boutique in downtown Chicago. While there, Ted tackled billon-dollar class action claims under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, first-chaired jury trials under Illinois' Forcible Entry and Detainer statute and won multiple appeals on behalf of his D&O, E&O, products and commercial clients..
