Tom Mortati joined Martin, Harding and Mazzotti, LLP in 2017 and brought with him 26 years of litigation and trial experience. Tom graduated from Fordham University in 1988 and then attended Albany Law School graduating in 1991 where he served on the Albany Law School Journal of Science and Technology. Tom began his legal career in New York City as an associate with a large multinational firm before moving to the Albany area permanently in 1993. He was a partner in a personal injury defense firm for 20 years handling high exposure cases in the fields of medical malpractice, law enforcement, construction and products liability, among many others, in both state and federal court before joining the MHM team. Tom has tried numerous cases in courts in over 20 counties in New York from Brooklyn to the Canadian border as well as in Connecticut. He was prominently featured in 2016 on a two hour Dateline NBC special as well as in 2017 on an episode of Deadline Crime with Tamron Hall for his work in a high profile law enforcement case.. Tom is admitted to practice in New York and Connecticut as well as the United States District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of New York, the District of Connecticut, as well as at the United States Court of Appeals for the Second and Eighth Circuits and at the United States Supreme Court. He is a past President of the Capital District Trial Lawyers Association and has lectured for the New York State Bar Association and CDTLA among others over the years. Heather was born in Seoul, South Korea and adopted when she was four months old and grew up in Rensselaer County, NY. Because of this, Heather has always been very grateful for everything that she has and she knew that she wanted to help people. Heather spent several years after high school working in group homes for individuals with intellectual disabilities and mental illness. During this time Heather earned an Associate’s degree from Hudson Valley Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology from The College of Saint Rose. She spent nearly 10 years working in group homes. Heather was unable to do advocate for the individuals as a group home worker and decided to go to law school to further work with and advocate for individuals with disabilities.. Heather began her career while in law school, working under a student practice order, representing individuals in criminal and family court proceedings. A family member tragically passed when Heather was in law school, which resulted in interests in personal injury law, slip and falls, and medical malpractice. Heather’s first job was as an insurance defense law firm where she could learn how insurance companies defend claims and authored several successful motions for summary judgment. Heather also worked for a firm representing individuals in family law, criminal law, and civil litigation.. Heather returned to her roots and began practicing Social Security disability law in April of 2019 and loved helping clients receive Social Security disability and Supplemental Security Income benefits.. Heather has a great love for dogs and enjoys spending time with her Lhasa apso Bruce. Heather also has a passion for rock and metal concerts and festivals. Daniel “Dan” Dagostino graduated in 1997 from the State University of New York at Albany with a degree in History. According to Dan, his first position with Martin, Harding & Mazzotti, LLP allowed him to obtain firsthand experience as to the emotional, physical and financial hardships injured persons endure as a result of an unexpected incident and the positive impact of Martin, Harding & Mazzotti, LLP during and after the legal matter concluded.. After working for approximately one year at the firm, Dan decided he wanted to become a lawyer and attended Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles, California. Upon graduating, he remained in Los Angeles and became admitted to practice in California. In Los Angeles, Dan litigated personal injury matters on behalf of injured persons as well as insurance carriers.. In 2006, a position opened in the Case Management Unit of Martin, Harding & Mazzotti, LLP and Dan anxiously returned to New York to join the team. “Upon returning to Martin, Harding & Mazzotti, LLP, I was glad to see that they had surpassed the level of legal and personal service of any firm which I had ever been employed.”. Dan was born in Albany and grew up in Guilderland. He attended Marist College and Albany Law School, having obtained his Juris Doctor in 2013. While there, Dan was selected to work in the Health Law Clinic of Albany Law School, where he focused on estate planning, health insurance issues, and representing individuals at social security disability hearings.. After graduating law school, Dan worked at a small law firm, engaging in general practice. Dan jumped at the opportunity to join Martin, Harding, and Mazzotti, LLP. He is excited to be able to help members of the community understand their rights and work with them to obtain justice and peace of mind.. Each year, Dan devotes time to helping veterans of the United States Military obtain free legal services during the Veterans Pro Bono event at Albany Law School. He has been involved in this program since starting law school and plans to continue offering advice and counsel to our veterans for years to come.. Dan currently plays rugby in the Capital region and enjoys attending various community events that are offered in the City of Albany.
