When I graduated from law school, I was honored to be chosen as a judicial law clerk for Judge James P. Smith.  In Judge Smith's court, I had a front row seat to many of the best trial lawyers in North Alabama.  I watched those great lawyers fight hard for their clients.  It didn't take long for me to decide I wanted to be a lawyer who fights hard for my client, and who doesn't back down from a trial.  My mentor, Bud Watson, gave me my opportunity once my one-year judicial clerkship ended.  Since then, I have devoted my law practice to cases involving severe and debilitating personal injuries, substantial damages, and wrongful death.  For 15 years, I have successfully argued cases to verdict in many Alabama counties, and Federal courts.

The most important part of being a good attorney is to just be a good person. If I am going to stand up and fight for my clients, I first have to know what I stand for, myself. Being an effective advocate depends on relationships built on integrity and trust—whether it’s with my clients, the judges, or the jurors. This is even true for the insurance companies and their defense lawyers. They know that when I say something—I mean it—and I have the means to back it up.

I was born in St. Louis, Missouri where I lived for twelve years. After a two year stay in Glen Carbon, Illinois, I moved to Madison, Alabama. I graduated from Bob Jones High School in 2002 with honors. I received an Auburn Alumni Academic Scholarship to Auburn University. I graduated cum laude from Auburn University in 2006 with a degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering and a Minor in Political Science. After that I took the path less chosen and went from Auburn to the University of Alabama School of Law. I graduated from Alabama in 2009 and have been working in the Huntsville area ever since.. As a lawyer, I feel it is our duty to help out those in need. Therefore, while at Alabama, I worked with the Alabama Civil Clinic which allowed me to help college students and individuals in the community who were in need of legal assistance. I have also taken cases from the Madison County Volunteer Lawyers Program in an effort to help those who could not otherwise afford attorneys.. I also feel very strongly about accountability for one’s mistakes. It seems that far too often these days, the focus of a civil case is on how much money an injured person receives, instead of what mistake caused that injured person to become hurt. I believe our juries are important to the American legal system because they hold individuals and corporations responsible for their mistakes.

Having grown up the son of devout educators in rural Madison County, Gary has never forgotten the simple yet enduring lessons of faith, integrity and hard work. As an all-county athlete and avid outdoorsman, he built lifelong friendships and associations with the kinds of people that make up the backbone of our country. However, he also saw how quickly those salt-of-the-earth people can be taken advantage of by large, faceless corporate entities. It was a deep calling to defend the rights of his friends and neighbors that became the motivating force behind Gary's desire to go to law school. Working his way through law school allowed Gary to interact with experienced lawyers and judges while going to school to earn his degree. He honed his courtroom skills amongst some of the greatest litigators in Alabama's history.. To this day, Gary believes the relationship with his clients is one of hallowed privilege within which trust, comfort and mutuality must be established as the structures of success.
