I consider myself very lucky.  Some of my early experiences are unique in my generation.  I started my education in a true one room school house in a rural area of upstate New York.  K through 8th grade in a single room with a coal stove as the only heat.  I was only there for two years, but I always felt protected by the older kids.. In 1956 my paternal grandfather died, and we moved back to the farm where my Dad was raised, a small town called Nassau, also upstate and not to be confused with the county on Long Island.  His Great Uncle was still operating the farm as his parents had.  A handful of cows, milked by hand.  Two draft horses to pull the various ancient pieces of equipment.  Loose hay, pitched onto the wagon by hand.  I can't say that I loved it, but you never fully recover from sheer hard work!!  And you don't suffer from it either.. I can contrast these truly bucolic pictures with working my way through law school in Columbus as a clerk in a Hospital Emergency Room.  The contrast between pitching hay on a warm summer day and dealing with the consistently stressed out people who populate an urban ER could not be greater.. For a number of years while practicing law I also had the privilege of being a supernumerary in the local opera company productions.  My high point was portraying a high church official, in the spotlight, with one of the stars, the evil Baron Scarpia, kneeling at my feet.  These non-singing, silent roles RARELY involve more than filling up the stage.  A brief moment in the spotlight for a fellow who can't sing a note was an outstanding memorable moment.. It has been a lot of fun, and always interesting.  I've been lucky.

I believe that to be able to adequately evaluate a case and advise a client an attorney must have experience dealing with cases in court. I have handled cases in nearly half of Ohio's 88 counties. It is this experience that allows me the ability to negotiate favorable resolutions outside of the courtroom as well as obtain them in the courtroom.. I believe in a dual focus approach to litigation. I feel that an attorney should always work to resolve a case without a trial to avoid the costs, both financially and emotionally, that clients have with litigation. I also believes at the same time that an attorney should be preparing the case for trial. This dual focus allows the attorney to be prepared for all issues that arise and provide the client with the best alternatives and results in their cases.. An attorney that is experienced in the courtroom and is not afraid to litigate a case can often provide a better perspective for clients on the reasonableness of their position as well as the likelihood of succeeding on various issues by litigation.. My passion for Family Law has given me the opportunity to also teach future lawyers. I serve as an Adjunct Professor of Law at The Ohio State University Micheal E. Moritz College of Law. At OSU, I developed a teach a course on Divorce Trial Practice.

Firm: E. RAY CRITCHETT, LLC ATTORNEY AT LAW - COLUMBUS OFFICE

I believe that if you are involved in a situation where you feel that you may need an attorney, you should not hesitate to contact one.  Many lawyers will take the time to talk with you about your problem(s), advise you about your rights, help prepare a plan and then advise you about whether or not you actually need to hire an attorney.  Many times, you will not need to go any further beyond this initial consultation.  But if you do, it is best to have your attorney involved from the beginning so that the right strategy is in place to protect you and to help ensure that your claim is resolved timely.  Do not hesitate to call an attorney for an initial consultation.. I truly enjoy helping individuals and companies with a variety of different cases as it keeps my practice ineteresting and well informed on the law.  I am always grateful when I can be involved early in the case so that a specialized strategy can be put into place for a client in hopes that we can resolve the claim early and if not, we can have our claim ready for suit and then focus the pressure on the other side.  I believe that a well prepared claim is much like a game of chess with a touch of contact sport, such as rugby.  You need to know how to be subtle and how to plan well into the future, but you also need to know when to be aggressive.  There is no other aspect of the law quite like litigation.

I am Russ Flickinger and I would like to thank you for stopping by. I assume since you are here, you are looking for legal representation. Hopefully after looking it will be able to give you some information that will enable you to make a decision about choosing your attorney.First and foremost, I want to make sure you understand I represent people. I do not represent businesses, corporations, or insurance companies. In fact I detest insurance companies! Over the last 30 years, it has been my honor and privilege to represent thousands of individuals in Central Ohio who have been injured to no fault of their own. Now, what type of cases do we handle? We do a lot of motor vehicle accidents. Some may be car accident cases. Several of those car accident cases are situations where our clients are bringing the claim against another driver who is at fault. In certain circumstances, we will be bringing a claim against the clients own insurance company. This would incur when the at-fault party does not have insurance or doesn’t have adequate insurance coverage to compensate my client. We also do a lot of motorcycle accidents. I am an avid motorcyclist that has been riding most of my life. I understand the problems that face motorcyclist out on the highway. It can be extremely dangerous and hazardous.. We also do truck accidents. Now, we do represent truck drivers, but we also represent a lot of people who have been injured due to the negligent conduct of truck drivers. Those cases present a lot of interesting issues. As soon as the accident occurs, within the hour, the trucking company has somebody on scene. So you need someone who is taking care of your rights just like the trucking companies are there for their truck driver. We also do slip and fall cases. You may be in a restaurant and fall due to grease or some substance on the floor. You may be on a sidewalk that has been broken up, fall and get injured. We handle quite a few of those cases. We also do dog bites. I love dogs, but unfortunately a lot of owners do not take care of their dogs responsibly. As a result someone gets hurt. If you have been injured due to the negligent conduct of someone owning or harboring a dog, give us a call. We maybe able to help you. Here in Ohio, the summer months attract kids and adults to amusement parks. We have represented individuals who have been seriously injured at amusement parks. Swimming pools during the summer also provide a certain amount of danger; we have represented individuals who have been seriously injured, as well as family members who have lost loved ones due to an accident that occurred in a pond or swimming pool.. Over the last 30 years I have recovered millions of dollars from my clients against insurance companies. If you are looking for that big old stuffy law firm with lots of partners, paralegals, legal assistants, secretaries and everybody buzzing around, then don’t come to my firm, that’s not us. If you hire Flickinger Legal Group, Justin and I the ones who are responsible for your case. We are the ones you are going to meet with. You are going to speak with my receptionist Kelly when you call in. We look after our clients just as we would our family. In fact we have recently changed the name of our firm to Flickinger Legal Group. That’s because my son Justin has become an associate and you are going to have the opportunity to have him work on your case as well.. Take a tour of our website . Get to know us. I am confident that after you review our site, you are going to give us a call because you are going to trust us with your case. There is no obligation, it’s free. Give us a call or come in and visit; and I am confident that you are going to hire us to represent your claim.

I am often asked why I would choose to be a domestic attorney. I will openly admit that family law can be contentious and straining at times. However, nothing compares to the feeling of knowing you helped a family resolve their issues in a manner that will allow for them to move forward in their new lives in the most amicable way possible. Though it is not always possible or the best approach, where it is I believe it is important to guide clients to an amicable resolution of their matrimonial and/or custody disputes to allow them to remain focused on and use their resources for the future of the children. Even where children are not involved, aiding clients in focusing on their future rather than the past can lead to a much less stressful and less expensive resolution to their matrimonial issues, something I take great pride in accomplishing. Of course, in family law, negotiations can often break down or are not possible due to various factors. In these situations, I understand the complex nature of family law matters and have experience handling intense litigation in these areas. I strive to represent my clients best interest in a firm, yet ethical manner while always remaining cognizant of the impact the process can have on the daily lives of the parties involved.

Having litigated cases for 23 years, I know how anxious my clients get. The case seems to take forever and their lives are on hold. At least that is what they tell me. I just knew there had to be a better way to resolve differences. When I found Collaborative Law, I knew that was it. Not only does this process address the legal disagreement, it strives to help clients make peace with the situation. Without acceptance, the situation just returns in the client's life. That does not do anyone any good. It just promotes a revolving door of litigation. The better solution is to resolve the matter so that the client can move on with his or her life. Helping my client actually resolve a problem is who I am.
