We created a boutique intellectual property firm for one reason – to be able to provide clients Tier 1 expertise and service. I consider myself very lucky.  Some of my early experiences are unique in my generation.  I started my education in a true one room school house in a rural area of upstate New York.  K through 8th grade in a single room with a coal stove as the only heat.  I was only there for two years, but I always felt protected by the older kids.. In 1956 my paternal grandfather died, and we moved back to the farm where my Dad was raised, a small town called Nassau, also upstate and not to be confused with the county on Long Island.  His Great Uncle was still operating the farm as his parents had.  A handful of cows, milked by hand.  Two draft horses to pull the various ancient pieces of equipment.  Loose hay, pitched onto the wagon by hand.  I can't say that I loved it, but you never fully recover from sheer hard work!!  And you don't suffer from it either.. I can contrast these truly bucolic pictures with working my way through law school in Columbus as a clerk in a Hospital Emergency Room.  The contrast between pitching hay on a warm summer day and dealing with the consistently stressed out people who populate an urban ER could not be greater.. For a number of years while practicing law I also had the privilege of being a supernumerary in the local opera company productions.  My high point was portraying a high church official, in the spotlight, with one of the stars, the evil Baron Scarpia, kneeling at my feet.  These non-singing, silent roles RARELY involve more than filling up the stage.  A brief moment in the spotlight for a fellow who can't sing a note was an outstanding memorable moment.. It has been a lot of fun, and always interesting.  I've been lucky.

I truly enjoy helping individuals and companies with a variety of different cases as it keeps my practice ineteresting and well informed on the law.  I am always grateful when I can be involved early in the case so that a specialized strategy can be put into place for a client in hopes that we can resolve the claim early and if not, we can have our claim ready for suit and then focus the pressure on the other side.  I believe that a well prepared claim is much like a game of chess with a touch of contact sport, such as rugby.  You need to know how to be subtle and how to plan well into the future, but you also need to know when to be aggressive.  There is no other aspect of the law quite like litigation.

I also understand that people can be scared about the situations that they are surrounded with. My goal is to help other people understand what their problems are, and how I can help them deal with their problems.

Bob Cochran is a former prosecutor, trial lawyer, and litigator with over 26 years of experience. In 2018, he left a large law firm in Columbus, Ohio to open his own firm and focus on representing individuals and businesses charged with a crime or facing a government investigation. Bob previously served as an Assistant County Prosecutor and Assistant Ohio Attorney General where he prosecuted environmental crimes and later served as the Assistant Chief of Ohio’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. Before starting his own firm, Bob practiced at Ice Miller LLP (formerly Schottenstein, Zox & Dunn) where he was a member of the health care department, practicing white collar criminal defense, health care law, and commercial litigation.  He is also a Criminal Justice Act Panel Attorney in the Southern District of Ohio.

Attorney Ed Malek graduated from Capital University Law School in 1969. While attending law school in the evening, he was employed full time during the day and was also actively involved in the United States Army Reserves. Mr. Malek was admitted to the Ohio State Bar Association and commenced employment with the Franklin County Probate Court. He then became an assistant prosecutor for the Franklin County Municipal Court. Mr. Malek has proudly completed his military responsibilities for his country.. In 1971, Mr. Malek entered into private practice and opened his own law firm in Columbus, Ohio. The Law Firm of Malek & Malek emphasizes representation of those people tragically injured in workers’ compensation accidents, automobile collisions and other serious injury events. For nearly 40 years, he has provided expert legal services to the community, representing many fine people and citizens of greater Columbus and surrounding counties..
