The honor of becoming an attorney means the ability to advocate on a client's behalf and to bring about a positive result, not just in their case, but also in their life. A true advocate should be concerned both with the case at hand and the client as a person. I am patient and understanding with my clients because I realize that for most people the judicial system is unfamiliar territory and can often be very stressful. I strive to conduct each of my representations with a superb combination of intelligence and strategy because to me, one is nothing without the other. If you are facing any legal issues, allow me to guide you through the process and to advocate on your behalf.

Firm: Cherry & Irwin

Samuel A. Cherry, Jr. was born and raised in Dothan Alabama, and has been practicing law for the past 36 years fighting to protect the rights of the injured and their families. Mr. Cherry is nationally acclaimed for verdicts and settlements in products liability cases where, as the lead lawyer for the plaintiff, he has obtained over $160 million for his clients. He has been very instrumental in the development of product liability claims against manufacturers of defective aerial lift devices. As a result of his efforts, new and better safety features have been incorporated within the aerial lift device industry.. Known and respected by his clients and his colleagues in the legal profession, Mr. Cherry has an AV rating in personal injury, litigation and products liability, given by his fellow lawyers and judges. This is the highest rating that you can obtain.. Mr. Cherry's life experiences have prepared him for representing those injured in accidents. When he was 11 years old he was involved in a horrible vehicle accident that cost him his left eye and seriously disfigured his face. He also had other orthopedic injuries involving his spine, arms and legs. He was unconscious for 3 weeks and has had over 20 surgeries to try to correct some of the damage done.. The first 4 years after the accident were the worst psychologically because they had to wait on my facial structure to mature before they could do most of the re-constructive work. I have a lot of reminders and I feel strongly that this life experience has made me a better advocate for my clients. I don't have to read books about Pain and Suffering. I have personally lived it. There is a difference.. In addition to his legal work on behalf of his clients, Mr. Cherry is also well-known for his commitment to giving back to Dothan and the Wiregrass area. He was one of two owners who developed Justice Park for the community to enjoy.. In 1984, Mr. Cherry co-formed and controlled an investment company that developed the old "SEARS" building at the intersection of Oates and Main in Dothan. When finished it was considered by many as The Crown Jewel of downtown redevelopment. He and his law firm have practiced here since 1986.. In 1998, Mr. Cherry was one of the four founding partners in what became known as The Cochran Firm. The Cochran Firm grew into a national law firm with offices in over 20 cities across the country. The administrative offices for The Cochran Firm are located in the office building in downtown Dothan. Mr. Cherry continues to own 40% of the national firm and remains very active in it on a national level.. Mr. Cherry is licensed to practice law in Alabama, Tennessee and Washington DC and throughout his career he has handled cases in 16 different states as lead counsel for the plaintiff. Mr. Cherry is a sustaining member of the American Association for Justice, the Alabama Association for Justice, and the Million Dollar Advocate Forum.

I began my law career as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable John M. Patterson, Judge (Governor, 1959-63) at the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals where I wrote approximately 150 unpublished memorandum and numerous opinions.  This was an extraordinary learning experience.. In 1993, I moved my family moved to Dothan, Alabama.  After a brief stint in civil practice, I returned to criminal law as a sole practitioner, where I tried numerous cases, including a grisly murder, one of Houston County's first DNA cases.. In 1994, I was lured from private practice to the City Attorney's Office for the City of Dothan.  While there, prosecuted hundreds of DUI cases, along with domestic violence cases and other assorted misdemeanors.  I also handled some of the City's civil work.. In 1995, I was lured from the City Attorney's Office to the Office of the District Attorney, 20th Judicial Circuit, which encompasses Houston and Henry County, Alabama.  As an Assistant District Attorney, I handled thousands of cases and tried over 200 jury trials.  Many of those were murders, robberies, drug trafficking, robbery and white collar crimes.  Again, I prosecuted hundreds of DUI and domestic violence cases and handled juvenile matters.  For a period of five years, I handled all the drug forfeiture cases for both counties.. In 2003, I returned to the private practice of law, focusing of criminal defense, DUI, and criminal appeals as I do today. Since then I have handled thousands criminal cases of all kinds.  My experience as a former prosecutor makes me a better defense attorney.  At trial, I have secured not guilty verdicts in capital murder, robbery, sex cases, drug possession and sales, DUI and numerous other cases.  In other cases, I have secured, both at trial and by plea, many lesser included offenses, including a plea from capital murder to a misdemeanor.  I have twice won the Alabama Criminal Defenses Lawyer's Merit Award.. I fight hard for those criminally accused regardless of guilt or innocence.  I provide service to my clients without judgment.  The criminal justice system only works if I keep the prosecution honest and ensure that the court's rulings are appropriate.. In March of 2016, I was recognized as one of B-Metro Magazine's Top Lawyers.  In June of 2016, I returned to the solo practice of law as Eric C. Davis, LLC.. Cory has been representing people injured on the job and in motor vehicle accidents for his entire legal career. His ability to get good results for his clients is evidenced by the fact that most of his cases are referred to him by former satisfied clients and other attorneys who trust their clients to him. Some of Cory’s results include being part of the trial team that achieved a record-setting jury verdict of $21,000,000 in a personal injury case. He has also had great success in workers’ compensation cases, such as obtaining a judgement valued at over $600,000 for an injured nurse. In that case, Cory recommended that the nurse reject an offer of $100,000 on the morning of the trial. Not only was a much larger judgment obtained, the nurse has now received far more compensation than was offered and she is entitled to lifetime medical benefits for her injuries. Sometimes cases can be settled, but other times a trial is needed; Cory helps protects the rights of his clients and helps them make informed decisions when it comes to resolving their claims.Other attorneys and judges provided their opinions about Cory to Martindale-Hubbell and, as a result, he received the highest possible peer review rating of Preeminent for ethical standards and legal ability. Cory has also been listed in the annual Super Lawyers® publication not only in Alabama, but in the Mid-South region, which includes four states.
