Ronald Larry Baum was born in Baltimore, Md. in 1956 and earned his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology from the University of Maryland.  While attending college he was a regular member of the Dean’s List for academic achievement.  He also participated in intramural sports and earned medals in swimming, diving, wrestling, and softball.  Toward the end of his collegiate career he got his first job as a private investigator working in the Md., D.C., and Va. area.. Ronald Baum went to law school at Nova University in Fort Lauderdale, Fl.  While earning his law degree he excelled academically and earned three Book Awards (given out by the professor to the student who excelled highest in the class).  While attending law school Mr. Baum also obtained his private pilot’s license and, in addition, was employed as a private investigator part-time.. After graduating from law school Mr. Baum was admitted to practice law in Florida, Maryland,  Washington D.C., and is a member of the Federal Bar.. As a criminal attorney Mr. Baum has had extensive trial experience and earned 5 consecutive Hat Trick Awards from the BACDL (each separate award represented 3 consecutive felony jury trials with the Defendant being found not guilty on all counts in each case).. In 1990 Ronald Baum was appointed as a Traffic Magistrate for Broward County and was soon thereafter elevated to Administrative Magistrate.  He retained that position until he resigned in 1998.. Mr. Baum was appointed to the Wilton Manors Civil Board in 1988 and has served as Chairperson ever since.  He has also served on the Board of Directors of Meal on Wheels and volunteered with other charitable organizations.  He presently donates approximately 75-100 hours of pro bono (free) legal work a year.. Mr. Baum has also been appointed as a Gaurdian Ad Litem in and for Broward County, State of Florida.. Mr. Baum has worked with various police agencies on the technical aspects of criminal and traffic law.  He has also continued to help train new Magistrates in Broward County each time they have been appointed.. In 2000, Ronald Baum was honored to be a guest lecturer at The Russian Judicial Academy in Moscow, Russia.  He has lectured on various aspects of the American Criminal Justice System to Russian Judges and law students.  Mr. Baum has been invited back, and lectured, each year since then.. I was born in Kingston, Jamaica and then moved to Florida at age 5.  After growing up in Coral Gables, Florida through 1988 I ventured off to Hofstra University, located in Long Island, New York, to obtain a Bachelor of the Arts degree, in Sociology, and two minor degrees in English and Psychology. I graduated Cum Laude from Hofstra, where I became member of Phi Beta Kappa.  Thereafter, I obtained a Juris Doctorate, with Honors, at Florida State University, where I was a member of the Moot Court Team – Mock Trial Division and the Journal of Transnational Law and Policy. I was also a member of the Governor’s Task Force on Domestic Violence, while living in Tallahassee I also worked for the Florida Bar.  I have been passionate in my practicing of law since 1996 when I was admitted into the Florida Bar. I am a Founding Member as well as a Board member of the Collaborative Professionals of South Florida, a Board member of Broward County Christian Lawyers Association, a member of the Caribbean Bar Association and the Broward Bar Association. I have experience in commercial litigation and insurance defense/worker’s compensation litigation, yet my practice area currently exclusively encompasses family and matrimonial law..
