I did not grow up in a military family, but I am often asked that question. Instead, my father was a college and professional football coach. I lived in ten (10) states from Mississippi to Washington state to California and New York with many states in between before I was eighteen (18) years old. Consequently, I appreciate all parts of our great country and the different backgrounds and experiences that people share with me every day. During my upbringing, I learned to adapt to many different situations. After all, the Southern culture is much different than California and New York.. I attended many different schools and had great difficulty deciding what I wanted to do when I grew up. I also really enjoyed athletics and had great dreams to be a professional athlete. I happened to be living in Buffalo, New York when I graduated from high school and started my college education at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York playing football. I finished my first degree at the University of Mississippi in English. I played football at Ole Miss for one (1) year as an ineligible transfer, but during that year I discovered the Greek life and focused on my social life.. After graduating from Ole Miss, the opportunities afforded an English graduate were not appealing to me. As a result, on the advice of my grandfather and uncle, I enrolled in the accounting program at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee. Christian Brothers was the only school willing to allow me to complete the requirements for the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) exam in a calendar year. It was a difficult program, but I completed the necessary accounting hours and accepted an associate accountant position with Coopers & Lybrand (n/k/a PricewaterhouseCoopers) in Memphis.. My experience at Coopers & Lybrand was an incredible opportunity to learn about many different businesses and people. I traveled the United States providing auditing and consulting services to clients. However, as I worked on initial public offerings for our clients, I realized that the legal side of professional service was more suitable to my interests and professional development.. In 1997, I completed my law school education at the University of Mississippi. It was a great experience returning to school. In fact, I enjoyed school so much that I continued in a graduate English program upon my graduation from law school. I worked in the Dean of Students Office at the University of Mississippi and coordinated sorority rush while pursuing my Masters in English. It was a great Fall semester until my girlfriend (now wife) told me that I needed to get a real job.. My pursuit of a real job brought us to Nashville. I have called Nashville and Middle Tennessee home for almost eighteen (18) years. Our three (3) children keep us running all over town with their many interests.. My law practice has evolved over the years. I started my legal career defending physicians in medical malpractice cases. I worked in small litigation firm before making the decision to practice as a sole practitioner in 2003. I have been asked to represent people in all types of conflict situations including domestic relations, criminal defense, civil and commercial litigation and probate matters. I also assist people with estate planning and advisory services. My diverse professional background affords me the ability to share my knowledge with clients by delivering straightforward practical advice and solutions. I continue to maintain my Tennessee CPA license in addition to my Mississippi law license. I am still hoping for a case in Oxford during football season. Due to the nature of my practice, I rarely have a conflict that prevents me from discussing your case and I do not have any insurance or corporate clients to prevent me from providing an honest answer to your question.
I began my legal career as a Deputy District Attorney in Los Angeles County and spent fifteen years there handling thousands of felony and misdemeanor cases. Over that period, I tried almost 100 cases in front of juries ranging from DUI's to murders and almost everything in between. The last five years of my time at the DA's office, I specialized in domestic violence, child sexual and physical abuse and human trafficking. These are the crimes that involve people who are at the most vulnerable time in their lives. I developed both the interpersonal skills as well as the trial skills that make me uniquely qualified to handle these types of cases as a defense attorney.
I am attorney Kate Yeager Delk, and I have been working in Tennessee's justice system for more than 11 years. I represent individuals defending their rights and protecting their futures.Prior to opening my own practice, I prosecuted cases in the 21st Judicial District (Hickman, Lewis, Perry, and Williamson counties) for 10 years. I tried numerous cases over those 10 years and know what it takes to prove a case beyond a reasonable doubt. Also, as a former prosecutor, I negotiated thousands of cases, and I know how the other side thinks. This unique perspective means I can help protect my clients - both today and in the future. My experience means I know how hard it is for defendants to protect themselves and their rights and how important an experienced attorney is.. After graduating from Washington and Lee School of Law, I clerked for the Court of Criminal Appeals under Judge Tommy Woodall. As one of his two Law Clerks, I researched numerous criminal law issues and drafted opinions.
I am an experienced trial attorney, who has successfully represented clients in the state and federal courts for over 30 years. I specialize in civil litigation, domestic relations and probate law. I am currently serving a three year term as a Young Lawyer Fellow with the American Bar Association's Section of Intellectual Property Law. I am also member of the Association of Corporate Counsel, Tennessee Bar Association, and Nashville Bar Association.. I accept pro bono cases through the Volunteer Lawyers and Professionals for the Arts (for more information, visit ).

My practice is currently focused on nationwide wage and hour litigation, but I continue to represent individuals and class actions involving discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation.. Having begun my legal career representing mega-inurance companies, I quickly realized many of these companies cared little about people, even if those people had suffered catastrophic, life-altering losses. That realization did not sit well with me. Things were made worse when an insurance company wanted me to find a way to avoid paying a mother for the loss of her unborn baby, when the loss of life was the company's insured's fault. Not paying the claim might save the company a few cents on their annual report to shareholders, but would prolong and exacerbate human suffering.. So, I decided to represent ordinary people instead of large companies. The decision has resulted in me having life-long friendships with those whom I represented. I hope that I have brought positive change to the lives of those clients and that we, together, have and will continue to effect positive change, making the world a safer and more livable place.
Growing up in rural West Tennessee on a farm, I learned the value of hard work. Devoting my practice to the prosecution of insurance claims, I represent policyholders with an unwavering passion. Each case is an opportunity to help the little guy and seek justice in an otherwise unfair landscape. As a founding member of my firm, I worked to bring together a group of highly respected and talented lawyers. My vision was to create a firm that would fight tirelessly for worthy causes and excel in the legal field.. Just since 2013, I have helped my clients obtain more than $20,000,000 in settlements, awards, and verdicts against insurance companies. I have successfully handled hundreds of insurance cases for clients with verdicts and settlements in the millions of dollars. While I have left the farm for the Nashville area, my practice encompasses all of Tennessee. As a father, husband, and a lawyer, I am serious about my responsibilities to my family, clients, and the legal system.
