He then earned his J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law in 1995 as a member of the Woolsack Honor Society, while serving as a U.S. Marine, where he returned to practice as a judge advocate.. Todd was consulted by the Senator who sponsored an amendment to the Senate Appropriations bill during that year which led to the abolition of forced arbitration for victims of sexual assault by most military contractors.. In 2013, Todd was inducted into the Texas Lawyer Hall of Fame following a $16,900,000 verdict on behalf of a mentally handicapped woman who was raped by a caregiver. He has been named a Texas Super Lawyer in 2011, 2012 and every year since 2014.. Todd has dedicated his life to making America safer. He now continues that work by protecting those truly injured people who will never get the justice that our system promises to them without holding greedy, powerful companies responsible for the damage they cause. As a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, as a member of the Executive Committee of the Texas Trial Lawyers’ Association, and as president of the Capital Area Trial Lawyer’s Association, he is a staunch defender of our 7th Amendment Right to Trial by Jury in all cases with a value exceeding $20.00.. Todd believes that if we fail to protect the 7th Amendment to the United States Constitution, we will eventually lose the rights guaranteed by them all because it is the right to hold the powerful accountable, protected by the 7th Amendment, that protects the individual freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution.

The Texas Criminal Justice system can be confusing and unpredictable. As a result, many people get lost in the system and are treated like statistics. This is morally wrong.. I believe that all people must be treated with dignity and respect. I became an attorney to help people, and I am truly committed to improving the lives of my clients.

My family was pretty poor.  My dad died when I was just 9 years old.  When I got into the 10 grade, I got into a program that allowed me to work half a day and go to class the other half.  When I graduated from high school in 1974, I went to work in a local sawmill.  After that, I got a better job in a small oil refinery.  I worked there until April 1976, and on the 19th day of April I went to work for DuPont Chemical.. I worked the next twenty years for Dupont.  After working there for 13 plus years, I started going to college classes at night.  On December of 1995, I graduated in the top of the class with a 3.95 GPA.. I started law school in August 1996, and graduated in February of 1999.  Upon graduation, my wife and I threw a dart at a map and ended up here.  Central Texas is my home.  I love it here and I intend to retire here.. I became a lawyer to help people solve some of the most difficult and personal situations they have ever had to deal with.  I respect everyone, and I treat people fair. I ask you to trust me to be honest with you, to assist you and your family to the best of my ability, in your time of need

I went to Law School to help people. I've found that my Criminal Law practice is an amazing place to allow me to help and serve people in need. I get the privilege and honor of being a voice for those wrongfully accused and advocating on their behalf. I also take great pride in helping those who have commited crimes and assisting them on shedding light on the legal process. My Counseling role, in my opinion, is just as valuable as my Attorney-Advocate role. I have found, more often than not, that if I help my clients take accountability for their transgressions and remedy their issues that caused their criminal allegations, that the State is far more lenient in plea negotiations. I've had guilty clients end up with dismissed cases because my clients listened to my advice on making things right.. I work hard for my clients. I treat them like family. And I defend them like family.

I am not your traditional attorney. I was born in Austin and grew up in Central Texas. I graduated from Round Rock High School in 1991 and then served in the United States Navy for five years.. Aside from being a military veteran, I have a diverse work experience. In addition to both legal and non-legal City and State employment, I have had various jobs in the private sector. Some of them include bookkeeping, crossing guard, barista, photographer, and owner of a business building decks and carports. Only after gaining years of experience in the real world, did I decide to become an attorney. I believe that those life experiences help me as an attorney.. My journey into the law began in the Navy. I was assigned to the military police department, where I learned to dispatch police, fire, and EMS. I later field-trained to become a police officer for that department. I also attended the Navy Legal Clerk schooling and learned to handle the administrative matters relating to military disciplinary actions.. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi. While in law school, I interned with the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office. After graduating law school and passing the bar, I was offered the opportunity to serve low income clients in need with the Wichita County Public Defender's Office. This allowed me to serve several clients in all phases of the criminal justice system.. After returning home to central Texas, I briefly worked with the Department of Family and Protective Services as a Regional Attorney, traveling to cities in the central Texas region to work with the local Child and Protective Services (CPS) offices in removing children from abusive or neglectful parents. I also spent several years working as Associate Counsel and municipal court prosecutor for various cities across the State. I also had the amazing opportunity to watch and learn from a mentor how to handle adoptions in the courts.. In 2017, I decided to take all that I had learned and go on my own. My practice is primarily criminal defense, but I also incorporate adoptions and wills and estate planning into my practice.. I have always believed that the justice system should be fair. I believe the police, those in charge of enforcing the laws. know the law and should be held to a higher standard. My motto is "just because someone does something wrong, does not give the police the right to do something wrong to try to prove it." Unfortunately, I have seen too many examples of that in my career. I have a desire to help those accused, wrongly or not, and especially those who feel the justice system is failing them. I understand that justice can seem out of reach due to finances, and I want to change that. My goal is to constantly learn ways to better serve low- and moderate-income Texans in their time of need.
