When you hire an attorney you should find out first if they are competent (do they know the law; are they experienced; do they have a good reputation) and second you should ask yourself, could I work with this person over a long period of time.. There are many philosophies on practicing law. Some attorneys want to take the lead and the client follows; some attorneys want only to settle the case and will do almost anything to see that happen; some attorneys want the client to take the lead and they will advocate for anything the client wants. I do not personally agree with any of those philosophies.. I try to measure up a client when they come through my door. The client will know something about me by the eclectic art on the walls of my office and how I dress. I want to understand the clients "story." I will then use the law and my skill to make the story come alive to the Court. The Court wants to do the right thing: it is a Court of equity; but first the Court must understand.. I believe in respect. I am respectful and I want my clients to be respectful. The Court is not an arena for revenge and I have no desire to shepherd that emotion.. My clients are presidents of companies and janitors; each one's story is different and interesting. These are people whom I respect and who are not so different from one another.. I like my clients. I like the work. I like to win my cases -- I am not an attorney for everyone.

I started Hessling Law Office, LLC in 2005 after having worked previously at a law firm in Wauwatosa.  I thoroughly enjoy helping individuals and families with their real estate, probate and estate planning needs.  I was born and raised in Greenfield, and having my office back in the city I am from has allowed me to connect and give back to the people that molded me.  I have been honored by Thomson Reuters as a Rising Star in the legal field in the State of Wisconsin for the years 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

I have been practicing labor and employment law since I graduated from Marquette University Law School in 1982.  I joined Krukowski & Costello, S.C. in 1980 and became a shareholder in 1986.. Majority of my practice centers on matters arising under the National Labor Relations Act, including union organizing and unfair labor practices brough by or against labor organizations, NLRB proceedings, arbitrations and labor audits.  I regularly negotiate collective bargaining agreementgs and Title VII litigation and matters involving disability, discrimination, employment contracts, wage and hour issues, worker's compensation, unemployment insurance and OSHA.  A significant portion of my practice involves non-compete and confidentiality agreement litigation.. I am named to the list of Top One Hundred Labor Attorneys in the United States complied by the Labor Relations Institute, Inc. and selected for inclusion in the 2010 - 2014 editions of the Best Lawyers in America, the 2013 edition of Wisconsin's Best Lawyers in the specialty of Labor and Employment Law, the 2012 edition of Wisconsin's Top Rated Lawyers and, inclusion as a Key Individual since 2011 in Chambers USA America's Leading Lawyers for Business.. I am admitted to practice in Wisconsin and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth and Tenth Circuits and the District of Columbia.  I have litigated cases in many state courts including Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, Nebraska and Indiana; the Supreme Courts of Iowa and Nebraska; federal courts in the District of Columbia, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Michigan; and before the NLRB, the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission and numerous federal and state agencies and arbitrators throughout the country.. In my free time I like to ride my bike, collect Neue Sachlichkeit art and spend time with my wife and two daughters. I presented a lecture at the Northwestern University Block Museum of Art on "War and Weimer Art."
