I have been married for 43 years have 3 grown children and 4 grandchildren.  I live in Friendswood, Tx. and  have  my  law office at the same location on  North Memorial Way since 1970.  I enjoy walking in Memorial Park, fishing, gardening, and spending time at our family retreat in the Texas Hill Country feeding deer, birds, and other wildlife. But the best time I have is spending time with my grandchildren. Additionally I am  a long time resident of the Houston area having graduated from Bellaire High School in 1960.  I really enjoy helping people with their legal problems and taking on the giant corporations for ordinary people.

I have been drawn to the law since before I remember.  I pursued a law degree from South Texas College of Law in Houston graduating in 2004.  I have represented numerous clients, from private indviduals to large corporations.  My specific focus is on personal injury and general business litigation.

I have been a criminal defense lawyer my entire career.  I have spent my entire adult life fighting for my clients' rights. For the past 38 years I have defended people accused of crimes ranging from murder to drug conspiracies.  I understand that clients accused of a crime want their case dismissed and they want to get back to their lives.  I follow a simple philosophy.  If a man is not guilty he should plead not guilty and fight for his liberty.  It is my job to do everything I can to save my clients' liberty.

I have a wealth of estate planning, elder law experience and estate administration experience, having practiced in these areas for over 15 years.. I work closely with clients to craft estate plans which address their concerns including probate avoidance, tax planning, asset protection and elder law planning. The key to a good estate plan is to tailor the plan to your specific goals and implementing it ahead of time. I have unfortunately worked with many individuals who do not plan ahead, and the family is stuck paying for medical care out-of-pocket or suffering through the long probate process. I can use my broad experience to build an estate plan right for you and your family, serve your goals, help obtain Medicaid to access important long-term care and nursing home benefits, and make the estate administration process as smooth as possible.

I grew up poor but I figured out early on that education was the way out of poverty.  I always did well in school and, from the third grade on, I made up my mind I was going to become an attorney and help people.  Today, after many years of practice, I still have a burning desire to help the underdog and advance causes of social justice.   To me, the accident victim is the underdog in every case. He finds himself in debt with hospital bills, undable to work becauase of his injuries, and yet the adjuster won't even return his calls.  I get great satisfaction knowing I can level the playing field and get the adjuster's attention as soon as I enter the case.. When I am not seeking justice for my clients, I am either relaxing at home with my wife, traveling, or doing things with our grown twin daughters.  I love to read biographies and have a serious interest in American and Texas history.  I also enjoy spending time on my farm, tending to the land and riding and training my horses.

I grew up in North East Texas before coming to Houston to study law. After graduating from law school I began to practice law on my own and have since had the opportunity to help hundreds of clients deal with personal injury matters of all kinds. I truly enjoy what I do.

I grew up in Houston and attended Memorial High School before joining the United States Marine Corps. While enlisted I received my bachelor’s degree from Chapman University in California. After being Honorably Discharged, I returned to Houston and began working in the oil and gas industry. I went on to earn a master’s in business administration and Juris Doctorate at the University of Houston.. Over the past decade, I have aggressively represented clients injured through the negligence of others. My practice focuses on personal injury, including transportation and construction litigation. I am currently licensed to appear in all courts in Texas and before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of Texas.

I graduated from Concordia University at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in kinesiology.   I went on to attend the Thurgood Marshall School of Law, where I participated in moot court activities.  Soon after graduation, the Intense Trial Advocacy program at the University of Notre Dame Law School invited me to participate, which taught me invaluable trial skills and techniques. I have since been honored with an invitation from Notre Dame to assist in the very same program, and look forward to giving back to an initiative in which I strongly support.. During the California-based American Board of Trial Advocates Conference, I served as a witness in an ABOTA seminar. This was a huge honor as only the best of the best attorneys receive invitations to participate in this prestigious event.. In my first year of practice, I played an integral role in obtaining 18 million dollars in settlements for our firm which includes two wrongful death claims and four premises liability claims.. In the summer of 2014, I was honored with an invitation to attend the ABOTA National Trial College, in which I successfully attended and completed.. In my spare time, I enjoy the great outdoors, rooting for the Notre Dame football team and Houston local teams with my college sweetheart and our two sons.  I also volunteer with the Archidiocese of Galveston-Houston.

I enjoy reading history and fiction.  I enjoy story telling and story developement.  I believe that a good story teller makes for a good lawyer.  I think that my ability to take a complicated subject matter and distill-it into a good story helps me connect with the trier of fact in a case, whether a judge or jury.  I approach cases by learning all of the details of the matter from the very beginning and absorbing it all in so that I can then turn around and tell it back in an effective manner that serves my clients purpose.  What is important is understaning and listening to the client. I enjoy my passion for law and helping companies with their legal needs.  When I am not practicing law, I enjoy time with family, nonprofit work, travel and participating in local cook offs with my husband.

I did not start out as an estate planning attorney. Around 30 years ago, when I was practicing in the corporate section of Butler & Binion, a once major law firm in downtown Houston, I was recruited to join the firm's trust and estate section to assist business owners with their succession plans. The experience totally changed my understanding of the practice of law. I soon found that, as an estate planning attorney, I had a direct impact on how family members would relate to each other after a loved one becomes disabled or passes away. I loved the idea of being a family counselor, as well as an architect of an estate plan designed to protect assets and save money.. I left Butler & Binion in 1994 and joined with Tammy Manning in 1997 to form the law firm, Galligan & Manning. During the early years of Galligan & Manning, in addition to advising clients on estate planning matters, I worked with Tammy to help the firm's probate litigation clients find resolutions to the conflicts that often plague families after the death of a loved one.. One of the phrases I hear the most during an estate planning consultation is, "I just want everyone to get along after I'm gone." I have seen the triggers that can ignite a family conflict and result in heart wrenching and expensive litigation. This has helped me in my estate planning practice to show clients ways that conflict can be avoided or minimized after a loved one dies.. Whether it is working with a blended family, or with parents who want to protect their children from creditors or from losing their inheritance in a failed marriage, my greatest satisfaction comes when I hear a client say "I didn't know that was possible" or "I feel so empowered knowing that I can take steps now to keep peace in the future.". Many people think of estate planning as just focusing on an efficient transfer of assets from one generation to another, but to what end? I believe that my clients have as their purpose, not just the transfer of assets, but the desire to leave a legacy of love and family harmony.

I co-founded Sutliff & Stout, PLLC, a Houston Injury & Accident Law Firm, because I wanted to help real people with real problems. Raised in a small West Texas town, I was taught the value of hard work, determination, fairness and helping others. My early interest in the law was inspired by my greatest role model, my father. As the son of an attorney and former State Court District Judge, I learned as a child that through the legal system you can help folks stand up for themselves and hold irresponsible people and companies accountable for their actions.. After graduating high school, I attended the University of Mississippi where I earned a degree in just three and a half years. I then enrolled in law school at South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas and earned a doctor of jurisprudence in just two and a half years.. I began my legal career in the management services division of a large, publicly-traded real estate investment trust. In this role I was responsible for the recruitment, hiring, evaluation, promotion and coaching of all employees reporting to me. As a member of the management team, I was driven to learn everything that I could about employment law to protect the company from liability. During this process I learned that many employment laws are so complex that they often provide no protection for employees at all. I wanted to do something to make sure that employees were treated fairly in our legal system.
