Philip Perez is a native of San Antonio where he attended Central Catholic Marianist High School.  He graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas State University with a double major in Political Science and Philosophy.  After receiving his undergraduate degree he worked for the Texas Attorney General’s Office Child Support Division in Austin.  He left Austin in 2001 to attend Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston.  While in law school, Philip excelled in both Moot Court and Mock trial competitions.  His success in these competitions included cash winnings.  He was consistently on the Dean’s List and in the top portion of his class.  In addition, he was a member of the prestigious Law Review journal and was elected to be on the Editorial Board as a Notes Editor during his final year.  While in law school, he was an intern with the 14th Court of Appeals under Judge Kem Frost and also participated in an internship with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.He was hired as an Assistant District Attorney (ADA) in Harris County in 2005 and stayed there until leaving in 2009 to be closer to his family and the Texas hill country.  As a Prosecutor for four years in the third largest county in the United States, Philip successfully handled literally thousands of criminal cases.  He has worked in several misdemeanor and felony courts and has personally tried numerous felony and misdemeanor cases in front of a jury.  He is truely an aggressive advocate.  At one point, he had seven felony jury trials in a seven week period.  During his time in the felony courts he never lost a jury trial.  One of his notable cases includes a felony trial where the jury sentenced a habitual DWI offender to 99 years in the penitentiary.  His valuable experience with the District Attorney’s Office also includes working in the Check Fraud Division, the Juvenile Division, several Justice of the Peace courts (traffic court) throughout Harris County, and the Grand Jury Division where he indicted over a thousand felony cases.   Philip has appeared on television educating the public on the law, and has judged trial competitions at both South Texas College of Law and the University of Houston Law Center.  He currently sits on the State Bar of Texas Committee on Legal services for the Poor.. (When he's not in the courtroom, Mr. Perez enjoys the outdoors.  He's a mountain bike enthusiast and participates in organized TMBRA races throughout Texas whenever he has time.)

My practice focuses primarily on personal injury litigation.. Before becoming licensed to practice law, I was the Director of Admission and Financial Aid at a national university in Dallas.. My experience there, and subsequent experience as in-house counsel with a private school in Dallas, naturally progressed into an extensive school law practice. Ultimately, I served as general counsel for a private San Antonio university and developed a strong practice in public entity law. All the while, I continued to handle the litigation of personal injury cases on both sides of the docket, including experience as staff counsel with a large, international insurance company. This experience has proven invaluable in the development, litigation, and negotiation of claims on behalf of injured plaintiffs.

Justin was born and raised in the small town of Burkburnett, Texas to a school teach Mother and high school football coach Father. After graduating from Burkburnett High School, he received his B.B.A. in Management magna cum laude from Texas A&M University. While at Texas A&M, Justin was awarded multiple academic scholarships and awards. He was active in student organizations, including serving as a Fish Camp Counselor and an opinion columnist for the Texas A&M student newspaper, The Battallion.. After graduating from Texas A&M University, Justin attended Baylor Law School on an academic scholarship. Justin graduated from Baylor Law School cum laude. At Baylor Law School, Justin was elected by his peers to serve as the Editor-in-Chief of the Baylor Law Review for a one year term. As Editor-in-Chief, Justin was responsible for overseeing the publication of the Baylor Law Review for one full academic year. His comment entitled The Quagmire of Personal Notification: When Is a Party Sufficiently Notified to Trigger the Motion for Rehearing Timetables Under the APA?, 58 Baylor L. Rev. 525 (2006) was published in the Baylor Law Review. Justin was also a member of the Order of the Barristers, the Baylor Law School Advocacy Team, and was picked as a top ten speaker in the Baylor Law School moot court competition.. In 2007, Justin joined the Watts Guerra Craft LLP’s San Antonio office. He was named partner at the end of his first year with the firm. Justin has worked all aspects of case investigation, case intake and trial preparation while at the firm.  Importantly, he has been a member of many trial teams in which the cases settled on the eve of trial or went to jury verdict. In August 2008, Justin tried a wrongful death case in Guadalupe County, Texas against a well-known local defendant. After a week long trial, the jury found for the plaintiffs. Along with his work prosecuting lawsuits, Justin has spoken at conferences across the State of Texas on a variety of legal topics. In addition to speaking, he has authored papers discussing automotive product liability, case investigation, joint theories of liability, and trucking (18-wheeler) litigation that have been presented at multiple continuing legal education programs.. Justin maintains a national practice in the areas of personal injury litigation, commercial and business litigation, personal injury caused by drunk drivers, injury and damages caused by 18-wheeler trucks, products liability, pharmaceutical drug litigation, bus accident litigation, oil & gas issues, and wrongful death issues.
