Ms. O'Brien graduated with the highest honors from Lewis University in May 2000. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, double majoring in Criminal / Social Justice and American Studies (History Department).. In 2001, Ms. O'Brien worked for Target Corporation as a human resources manager where she recruited new team members and helped run the Orland Park Target store. Ms. O'Brien then attended DePaul University College of Law and graduated with a Juris Doctor in May 2004. While a law student, she was employed at the National Anti-Vivisection Society as a legal analyst helping maintain . Ms. O'Brien also clerked with a Joliet law firm and helped maintain family, felony, and personal injury files.. In 1985, Mr. Hammel earned his degree in Bachelors of Science from the Marquette University College of Business.  Subsequently, he was employed at the Continental National Bank of Chicago for one year.  During law school, he clerked for the United States Army Judge Advocate Generals Office VII Corp, Munich Germany.  In 1989, he received his Juris Doctor from the John Marshall School of Law in Chicago.  After two years as a Will County Assistant Public Defender, he established Hammel Law Offices, P.C., in Joliet, Illinois.  In 2005, he merged with Brumund & Jacobs, and subsequently worked extensively in the areas of criminal, traffic and DUI offenses.   He is an annual instructor at the Will County Bar Association’s seminar regarding DUI and traffic offenses, and assisted in many prior ISBA seminars. During law school Courtney spent her summers clerking for a Family Law firm.  After passing the bar,  Courtney began her career working for Mitchell Law Group in Joliet, Illinois.. However, Avvo refuses to remove false and defamatory reviews, as well as anonymous reviews that don’t include enough information to make an appropriate response. This is unfortunate. Certainly if the accusations of the two negative reviews were true the disciplinary body governing attorneys would have been interested.. Avvo doesn't do a good enough job of making that clear. Why should they?  They would rather I pay them to promote my profile. It is all about the money. Avvo also shouldn’t continue to publish defamatory statements, but they know that most attorneys don't have the time or money to engage in personal litigation.
