My name is Theresa, and I think it is vitally important that my clients and colleagues know who I am and what I have been through on my own financial journey…. During my college and law school years I was affected by medical issues and did not have insurance. I took student loans to pay for school and private loans to pay for living expenses. I also lived on credit cards and maxed them out on food, books and gas for my car. It was a long hard road and no one helped me.. After I graduated and passed the bar exam, I was left with massive loans, exorbitant medical expenses and excessive credit card debt, which my first few jobs did not support. Because I knew I wanted to one day get married, own a home and a business, I had to sit down and really think out a plan to get myself back on track.. I started researching my options. I tried negotiating my debts. I lived at home to save money and most of my pay checks were eaten up by debt.. I needed a Fresh Start!. Enter: first it was quite a scary thought. A million things ran through my head, why is this happening to me, why can’t I pay my bills, am I doing something wrong. I was scared, confused and in a hole I couldn’t get out of, so I went to see a lawyer for a free consultation…just to talk, get some questions answered, and learn more. When I left his office I had one thing I was lacking before I got there, and that was HOPE. After months of thinking, contemplating and some tears (I won’t lie), I decided it was the best option for me.. Ultimately, I went back to that lawyer and went through the bankruptcy process, which was much less painful than I ever imagined. When you have a compassionate and competent lawyer figuratively holding your hand, you are confident and capable of going through such an emotional legal process.. Today, I am married, we own a home and I own a business, and my credit score is coming back strong!. I practice what I preach.. Sincerely,. Theresa Rose DeGray

I'm a New England-based lawyer who represents artists, filmmakers, design firms, production companies, and creative entrepreneurs. I regularly speak at colleges, non-profit arts organizations and professional associations about how the law affects their artistic endeavors. Before the law, I spent seven years producing television documentaries for Discovery Channel, Court TV, A&E, and a slew of others. I earned a B.F.A. in film and animation from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2002 and got my J.D. in 2012 from the Northeastern University School of Law. Growing up my mom was a teacher and dad delivered bread for a living. I started working at 14 as a dishwasher at the Bar-B-Q Restaurant in Milford. While the owners were very gruff people their son Howard managed the kitchen. He taught me that a manager leads by example; that if you worked hard and respected your team, they would give you their very best. I soon learned to cook and moved on to Scribner’s Restaurant where the owner taught me an incredible lesson: “Sure we can do it!” That was Scribner's motto. At 9:00 on a Tuesday night in January when we hadn’t served a dinner in an hour and a couple called to say they’d be there in 15 minutes to eat, he say “Sure we can do it, come on down.” He’d keep three people on staff just to serve dinner to two customers. He loved to make customers happy.. My mother went to law school later in life, and when I was admitted to the Connecticut Bar I joined her firm. Her words to me: “Real estate is boring but it pays the bills; it's yours.” Fortunately for me I never found it boring. Closings are like puzzles that need to be put together. Lots of moving pieces: buyers, sellers, realtors, lenders, the other attorney, a title company, the water company, the tax collector and the list goes on. Somehow, someone needs to get them all to cooperate to make the closing go smoothly. I loved the challenge then and almost 20 years later, I still do.. Today I rely on the hard-working team Howard taught me to build and I live by the can-do attitude that Scribner taught me. Our office is a great place to be—I love the people, I love what we do for our customers and I love challenge of getting it right day in and day out.
