I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I earned my degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1972, then recieved my Juris Doctorate from Marquette University Law School in 1977.  I frequently present and speak for the State Bar of Wisconsin, American Board of Trial Advocates, and Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers.  I am also a Civil Trial Practice Instructor at the University of Wisconsin Madison-Law School.

I represent individuals in all matters affecting the family including collaborative practice, mediation, divorce, prenuptial agreements, child custody and placement matters, as well as paternity, adoption, guardianship and estate planning.. I have extensive experience representing individuals in the Collaborative Divorce Process and am the past Chair (2011) for the Collaborative Family Law Council of Wisconsin (CFLCW) Board of Directors and served as CFLCW's Training Chair for four years from 2007 to 2011.  I frequently train other professionals in Collaborative Practice and have presented at International Academy of Collaborative Professionals Annual Conference, the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Italian Institute for Collaborative Law and numerous seminars for CFLCW.. I also have a Masters in Social Work and am trained and experienced as a mediator assisting parents and couples in resolving child-related and financial issues privately and without court involvement.  In 2015 I co-founded the Family Mediation Center with Susan Hansen and we have  offices in Milwaukee and Mequon.  We will open a third office in 2016 in Waukesha and intend to provide a positive resource for families throughout southeastern Wisconsin.

I advise buyers and sellers in acquisitions and dispositions.  In 2012, I assisted in the sale of a company that was a finalist for Mergers and Acquisitions Deal of the Year (between $50mm and $100mm) and a finalist for Industrial Manufacturing/Distribution Deal of the Year (between $50mm and $100mm) by M&A Advisors.. My estate planning experience includes wealth preservation strategies for individuals and business owners. I prepare estate plans for my lients, including wills, revocable trusts, healthcare power of attorneys, and financial power of attorneys. Additionally, I focus my estate planning practice in special needs planning. I am the recipient of Milwaukee Magazine’s 5-Star Estate Planning Award for 2014.

I focus my practice in the area of landlord-tenant law representing landlords and property management companies.I handle both commercial and residential evictions and the accompanying damage claims for my clients throughout the state.  I also handle litigation dealing with lead-based paint issues, bed bugs, Fair Housing (discrimination) claims, building code orders, public nuisance lawsuits, building code orders, and the defense of Wisconsin Administrative Code - ATCP 134 violations and investigations.. I assist clients with the drafting and interpretation of commercial leases and residential rental agreements and other rental documents and am the author of the landlord-tenant legal forms sold at Wisconsin Legal Blank Co., Inc. which are used throughout Wisconsin.. I exclusively represent employees in employment disputes including claims for unpaid minimum and overtime wages and employment discrimination cases. My work includes state and federal litigation for both individual claims and class actions. I also represent employees in severance and separation negotiation with their current employers and work with clients to resolve post employment non-compete disputes.

We provide interdisciplinary divorce mediation training in a skills-based interactive online program.
