My practice has been focused exclusively on family law since 2008.  A divorce is usually not just a divorce, as it also typically involves issues of child custody, child support, and alimony. A little about me:  I grew up in Columbia, Tennessee and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 2002, majoring in political science. While attending MTSU, I was a Presidential Scholar and an active member of many campus organizations. I also served as a legislative intern in the Tennessee General Assembly and, after graduation, worked with the Tennessee General Assembly House Clerk’s Office.  In 2006, I received my Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, graduating in the top one-third of my class. While in law school, I was a member of the University of Memphis Law Review and served as an officer for the Student Bar Association.. I reside in Franklin with my husband, 2 young children, and our dog.  We enjoy traveling and attending comedy shows.

My main areas of practice are Criminal Defense and Divorce/Post-Divorce cases. Within the area of criminal defense I handle DUI's, Domestic Violence Offenses, Felony Drug cases, Violent Felony Offenses and Sex Crimes. Within my Divorce practice I handle contested divorces, orders of protection, change of custody and modification petitions for spousal support, parenting time and child support. Prior to practicing law I was employed as a General Sessions Probation Officer, where I built relationships and gained experience with the inner working of the court system and its components(judges, police, assistant district attorneys and other probation officers). I am the seventh attorney on my mother's side of the family. Several members of the family have been or are currently judges in Davidson County. My hobbies consist of coaching youth athletics(football, baseball and basketball). Meredith Silva's practice focuses on elder law, estate planning, conservatorship/guardianship law, probate, medicaid planning and application, special needs planning and probate. Meredith is frequently appointed by the Court to serve as Guardian ad litem and Attorney ad litem in conservatorship cases.  She also serves as a fiduciary for disabled individuals who are unable to care for themselves and do not have family to assist them.. Meredith is an experienced litigator with 17 years of experience zealously representing thousands of clients.. Meredith’s practice is located in Davidson County, Tennessee. Meredith is licensed to practice law in the State of Tennessee and also in Florida.  She is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, the Nashville Bar Association, the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys, and the Conservatorship Association of Tennessee.. Meredith graduated with honors from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in Gainesville, Florida and received her bachelor's degree from New College of Florida, the Honors College of the State of Florida.

I have been providing excellent representation to clients in state and federal courts since moving to Nashville more than 18 years ago.  After completing law school at Duke University in 1999, I joined the Office of the Public Defender, where I advocated for clients from General Sessions Courts to the Tennessee Supreme Court, earning numerous verdicts of not guilty.  From 2004-2010, I served as an Assistant Federal Public Defender in the Middle District, earning numerous dismissals and verdicts of not guilty in federal court.  In 2010, I entered private practice as a partner at Jones Hawkins & Farmer, PLC, where it was my privilege to work with some of the finest lawyers in the country.  I began my own law practice in downtown Nashville in 2015, where I continue to fight hard for my clients, in cases ranging from misdemeanors to the most serious felony cases and investigations.

I had been a high school science teacher and an infantryman in the Army before I went to law school, so I know the value of a hard-earned dollar. I respect that my clients work hard for their money, so I don't waste it or their time. I place a priority on providing cost-effective legal and mediation services. Fighting for what's fair shouldn't be a luxury reserved for a select few or bankrupt someone.. I grew up in Dothan, Alabama and graduated from Auburn University in 1985.  I have lived in Nashville since 1986 and I love it!  I love to travel, even if it is just to the beach for a long weekend.  I like being outdoors and love to take long walks with my labradoodle, Stella, for exercise.  I am married to attorney Phillip Miller and we share office space in a beautiful Victorian house on Woodland Street in Nashville...very convenient to the Courthouse, and free parking!  My favorite thing about practicing family law is that I get to help people work through very difficult situations, and I am result-oriented...If you are in the process of a divorce or are considering a divorce, I urge you to focus on the solution instead of the problem...and hire a lawyer who will do the same!
