My name is Geoff Hoatson and I’m the founder of the Family First Firm. I grew up in Central Florida surrounded by all my extended family. Both of my grandfathers were veterans of World War II and my paternal grandfather received the Purple Heart and Silver Star from Fleet Admiral Nimitz for his heroism as a medic on the Pacific Front. I was born and raised in Middletown, New York. In 1982 I was admittedto the Florida Bar, and I have been authorized to practice before District Court of the Middle District of Florida since 1983 andbefore the US. Court of Appeals since 1985. I received my B.A. (withhonors) in 1973 and my Ph.D. in 1977 from State University of New Yorkat Binghamton. In 1982 I received my J.D from Cornell University. I wasan editor of the Cornell Law Review and am the author of a book andnumerous articles. After practicing law with many prestigious law firms in Central FloridaI opened my own law firm in 1998. I made the decision to open my ownfirm so that I would have unfettered ability to provide clients withthe level of representation and customer care that I believe eachclient is entitled to. I have created a boutique style law firm thatfocuses on client care. My firm has been structured with the specificobjective of allowing clients the ability to actively engage in theircase through ensuring that each client has frequent communication withtheir legal team and involvement with the strategies deigned to meeteach client's specific desires. It is my mission to aggressively represent my clients in a fashion thatassures they are afforded the full extent of their legal rights, whilefocusing on their specific goals and needs.

I received my undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Science with major in Humanities, from Rollins College in Winter Park. My graduate degrees were all conferred by Florida State University: Master of Arts in English from the College of Arts and Sciences; Juris Doctor from the College of Law; and Master of Fine Arts from the School of Motion Picture, Television and Recording Arts.. While in law school, I served as a legislative analyst for the Judiciary Committee of the Florida Senate.  After law school, I worked for four years at the Division of Florida Condominiums, Timeshares and Mobile Homes; subsequently I was employed for several years in the legal department of the Vistana Condominium Timeshare Resort in Orlando.  In 1989, I joined a law firm to focus exclusively on community association practice.. Outside of my law practice, you will find me hiking (mostly out west, but with stints on the Appalachian Trail), cycling and in-line skating (mostly on the West Orange trail), snow-skiing (usually Breckenridge, Colorado) and motorcycling (Triumph Bonneville).

I have worked for Finra, a financial regulator; LeClairRyan; and the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia. I have been recognized as a Technology Litigation Fellow by the Center for Legal and Court Technology, in Williamsburg, Virginia and was selected to participate in the Center’s annual lab trial.  I focus on corporate law and estate planning for the small business owner.. During my time at Finra, I worked in Registration and Disclosure, developing policies relating to past criminal sanctions, as well as assisting in decisions regarding expungment of customer complaints against registered brokers.  While at LeClairRyan, I assisted in the representation of a Community Association against a developer and worked to develop litigation strategies.  I also examined tax and school law issues.  At the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia, I worked with an underserved population and assisted clients in estate planning, and protection from debt collectors.  I also advised clients on property matters and uncontested divorces.  I worked for the National Center for State Courts, a non-governmental policy organization, helping to establish a guidebook for judicial election and campaign oversight.. Prior to entering law school, I worked as a financial and legal writer, with articles appearing in national and regional publications as well as Yahoo! Finance.  I also worked as a senior research analyst for a think tank in Princeton, NJ, focusing on real estate and hedge fund due diligence best practices.. I earned a B.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park, an M.A. from Stony Brook University, both in history, and a J.D. from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary, where I was a member of the William & Mary Journal of Women and the Law.  I was Education Chair of the College’s chapter of the Virginia Bar Association, andam a member of the New Jersey Bar Association, New York Bar Association and Suffolk County Bar Association.

I am admitted to practice in the States of Florida and New York and the U.S. Federal District Courts for the Middle District of Florida and Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.. I'm fluent in Spanish, as our all our firm's support team members. We can offer legal services to fit nearly any budget as well as flexible payment plan options. We accept all major credit cards and offer phone and Skype consults for clients who cannot visit our office in the Hunter's Creek section of Orlando.. I have handled hundreds of foreclosure cases filed by lenders against homeowners and investors. Working closely with our firm's support team, we have defended foreclosures in court, avoided the loss of homes and helped many clients negotiate settlements including short sales, reinstatements and loan modifications. I have helped families design and implement estate plans and protect their assets against creditors and others trying to sue them. I have worked with clients to build their credit and protect against identity theft. Simply put, I'm a legal problem-solver and planner for our clients.. In addition, I have represented consumers, investors and small business owners to solve existing legal problems or prevent future problems through planning.
