William J. “West” Ritchie is a managing attorney for The Virga Law Firm’s Pensacola office. First and foremost, I’m a regular Joe, just like anybody else.I know what it’s like to deal with insurance companies when a loved one is suffering through expensive medical treatments. When I was growing up, my sister battled a serious illness, and my family had to fight constantly to get her the treatment and benefits she deserved.. No stranger to hard work, standing up for those in need, and giving back to the community, I spent over a decade working in and operating group homes for developmentally disabled adults and children before law school.. While attending Florida A & M University College of Law in Orlando, Florida, I proudly served as Business Managing Editor for Law Review and Student President of Stonewall LGBTQA Association. My summers were spent interning for Orange County Public Schools and local personal injury attorneys. Preparing to enter the legal practice in my final year, I clerked with the Office of the Judges of Compensation Claims.. After graduating with honors, I began working with insurance defense firms. It was a great starting place where I gained valuable experience. But, I had enough of the unfairness I saw coming from insurance companies and the ways they treat good everyday people. Born in Iowa to two teachers, I relocated to Florida with my mother when I was six years old, two years after my father passed away. The daughter of a single mother, I was also an older sister, who strived to be the second set of hands my mother needed. I was determined to be the best I could be in everything I did, was dedicated to succeeding in school, and was focused on my path to a successful future.. My determination, dedication, and focus followed me when I attended Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida, where I graduated with a double major in Elementary/Deaf Education in 2004. One year after this I graduated from the University of Florida with my Masters Degree in Education and proceeded to teach Deaf and Hard of Hearing students for the following three years. I will always be a teacher at heart, but something was missing. In 2008, my inner drive to do more to help others took over and I began my path to a law degree. In 2011, I graduated with my law degree from the University of Florida and passed the Florida bar that same year.. I began my career as a lawyer for Florida's Guardian ad Litem Program advocating for the best interests of children who had been abused, abandoned, or neglected. However, again my determination, dedication and focus took over and I decided to expand my law career and took and passed the Kentucky bar. I am now a licensed lawyer in the State of Florida and the State of Kentucky. After more than five years with the Guardian ad Litem Program, I joined JMP Law, P.A.. Belinda is an associate at Cole, Scott, and Kissane's Orlando office. Her areas of practice are focused on personal injury protection (PIP), general civil litigation, catastrophic and personal injury, SIU insurance fraud defense, premises liability, product liability, professional malpractice, and vehicle negligence.. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Central Florida in 2006. Upon graduating from college, She pursued her dream of becoming an attorney and, in 2009, earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Florida, Levin College of Law. While in law school, she was named to the Dean’s List. She was also Justice (President) of the Phi Alpha Delta, Law Fraternity, Fletcher Chapter. During law school, Ms. Rivera also became a Certified Legal Intern for the State Attorney’s Office of the Eighth Judicial Circuit and worked as a legal intern for the Innocence Project of Florida. She was awarded a Pro Bono Certificate from the law school for her volunteer work.. Upon graduating from law school, Belinda accepted a position as an Assistant Public Defender at the Office of the Public Defender of the Ninth Judicial Circuit. She practiced as an attorney there for almost six years trying over 40 trials ranging from misdemeanors to capital felonies, writing and arguing of motions, conducting depositions, and writing appeals.. Belinda is originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, but has called Orlando her home for 15 years. She is fluent in Spanish.
