He is a past President of Collaborative Divorce Professionals of Arizona, and serves on the Arizona Supreme Court’s Child Support Guidelines Review Committee and the State Senate’s Domestic Relations Committee. David also serves as a Judge Pro Tempore for the Maricopa County Superior Court.. Mr. Guild was a founding Senior Member for The Cavanagh Law Firm since its inception in 1999, and started his career with O’Connor Cavanagh in 1981.. Mr. Guild is a Certified Tax Specialist and holds a Masters in Law in Taxation. Over the past 35+ years he has focused primarily on estate planning, general commercial work entailing all manner of federal income tax issues, and state and local tax controversy work. He has handled more than 250 tax controversy matters, including administrative hearings, litigation in the Arizona Tax Court, the Arizona Court of Appeals, and the Arizona Supreme Court, collection negotiations and lobbying efforts. He also has extensive experience in setting up homebuilder clients in the two-tier homebuilder technique mode.. Mr. Guild handles financial and commercial aspects associated with complex divorce matters, as well as being a qualified domestic relations order specialist.. He also has an extensive general business background, including the formation of entities, corporate reorganizations, merger-acquisitions, family-owned businesses, and the preparation of buy-sell agreements, employment contracts and succession planning.. Mr. Gerity has been admitted to practice law in Arizona state and federal courts since graduating from the Arizona State University College of Law in 1994. He also is admitted to practice law in Colorado and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Prior to forming Israel & Gerity, Mr. Gerity clerked for the Chief Judge of the Arizona Court Of Appeals, served as a Deputy Public Defender, where he received extensive trial experience, and worked for several years at a large civil litigation law firm in Phoenix. He then struck out to form his own firm, and also served as of counsel to a prestigious, boutique commercial litigation firm. In law school, Mr. Gerity "wrote on" as an Associate Note And Comment Editor for the Arizona State Law Journal, received honors in legal research and writing, and was awarded Best Appellate Brief. Mr. Gerity received his Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University in 1990.. Mr. Gerity's practice areas include trusts and estate planning, elder law, business and intellectual property, bankruptcy, commercial litigation, and general business representation. He has taught classes and given presentations on a wide variety of topics, including teaching at a national paralegal college and teaching a series of courses to management personnel at a top-twenty employer in the Phoenix area.
