I've been practicing in Downtown Portland, Oregon for over 14 years.  My practice primarily revolves around Home Owner Association Law, Construction Defect Litigation, Contract law, Insurance and representing Real Estate Owners, select Contractors and Developers and others in need of professional represenation.  I am a litigator and a trial attorney.  I've taken and defended thousands of depositions, represented clients in hunreds of mediations and arbitrations and taken dozens of cases to verdict at trial and arbitration.. Outside of work, I love to spend time with my family, golf, snowboard, wakeboard, mountain bike and ride motorcycles.

I was born, raised, and married in the San Francisco Bay Area, but moved my family to Portland in 1985.  I formerly taught high school English and Social Studies in California and Oregon.  When not representing hurting people, I enjoy hanging out with and cooking for my friends and family, reading books (especially contemporary fiction), bicycling, hiking, watching baseball (I'm a San Francisco Giants fan), activities in my church and community, and eating at the fabulous restaurants in town.

I was born and raised in Colorado, and received a Bachelors Degree in History with minors in Political Science and Legal Studies at Colorado State University.  After graduation I moved to Oregon to pursue my life long dream of becoming an attorney. I was accepted to Willamette University College of Law on a Presidential Scholarship and moved to Salem in the fall of 2017.. I graduated from Willamette University's College of Law as the Oregon Women Lawyer's Law Graduate of the year.. I was formally sworn in as a member of the Oregon State Bar in October 2020. Since admission, I have represented clients in numerous family law cases including high value asset division, custody and parenting time modifications, spousal support modifications, prenuptual agreements, marital settlement agreements, and divorce litigation. I have also completed a 40 hour mediation training with Dr. Clare Fowler.. I emphasize communication and transparency in my practice. Over the years I have refined my practice to focus solely on defending employees from suffering unlawful employment actions.  Among others, I have successfully assisted clients in recovering for civil rights violations, unwanted sexual harassment, disability discrimination, medical leave, race/sex/gender discrimination and harassment, wage and hour disputes and a number of other employment related legal issues including the negotiation of severance agreements.. I have lived in Oregon since 1995 but I was born and raised in Ohio. During my spare time, I enjoy camping in the great Northwest, running, biking, and reading non-fiction.

I have been advising clients throughout the West on environmental, natural resource, and land use law since 2000.  My practice is focused on helping clients to obtain the federal, state, and/or local approvals required for construction and operation of range of project types, including electric transmission and renewable generation projects.  I work daily with clients, agency representatives, and consultants across a range of environmental and natural resource disciplines. My skill set includes representing clients in administrative hearings and litigation, as well as providing regulatory compliance advice.

I grew up in Portland, Oregon. After high school, I first moved to Corvallis in 1993 and was an electrical engineering student at Oregon State University. After three years, I transferred to University of Colorado at Boulder to complete my engineering degree.After my undergraduate work was complete, I worked as an electrical engineer for six years, primarily with Intel Corporation in Hillsboro, Oregon. In 2002, I started law school as an evening student at Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College while continuing to work full time at Intel. During this time, I attended law school classes after work.. In 2004, I left Intel and took a clerking job at the Portland firm of Swanson, Thomas, and Coon. There I worked with a number of exceptional attorneys, primarily in the areas of workers' compensation and personal injury law. I also developed an interest in criminal law and criminal defense.In 2006, I took a position as a certified law student at the public defender's office of Multnomah Defenders in Portland. I was certified to appear in court on behalf of clients for misdemeanor trials, arraignments, motion hearings, and DUII diversions. After graduating from law school in 2006, I joined my father and wife to create West Valley Law Group PC in Corvallis, Oregon.  There, I focused primarily on general litigation practice and criminal defense.After two years of successful practice, in Corvallis, I relocated to Portland to continue the practice of law after Tim Brittle retired.  I have grown my law firm to as many as 5 attorneys, and have since reduced it to the convenience of a solo practice. I am an experienced medical malpractice trial attorney, and have tried more than 125 jury trials in state and federal courts. My practice focuses on medical malpractice defense, health law, and employment defense, and I have tried numerous “wrongful” death and catastrophic injury cases, as well as large numbers of severe injury cases ranging from complex surgical complications to brain injuries to alleged delayed diagnosis of cancer. My clients include medical, dental, and nursing professionals and organizations in arbitrations, mediations, and numerous regulatory matters.. The range of trial issues included claims against the State involving alleged use of excess force or false arrest by State Troopers, alleged failure to prevent child abuse of children who were wards of the State, car crashes involving cars driven by public employees, car crashes because of missing stop signs or icy roads or highway construction/design, and injuries and deaths from accidents at State parks.. When not practicing law, I spend as much time as possible in and around water. I have rafted most of the rivers in the Pacific Northwest and led private groups down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon on three different multi-week trips.
