Thank you for your interest in my profile.  I have been a lawyer 34 years and therecipient of numerous awards and publisher of many articles.  I was the recipient of the Trial Lawyer ofthe Year Award, issued by Trial Lawyers for Public Justice in 1997.   This was in recognition of the work I did inKirkwood v. John graduated from the University of Chicago Law School with Honors in 1998.  While at the University of Chicago, he was a member of the University of Chicago Law Review and wrote a note for the University of Chicago Legal Forum entitled "Genetics and Justice: An Indigent Defendant's Right to DNA Expert Assistance."  After graduation, John served for one year as a law clerk for Judge Ed Carnes, a federal appeals court judge in Montgomery, Alabama, and then for another year as a law clerk for Judge Shira Scheindlin, a federal trial judge in New York City.. After completing his clerkships, John worked for several years as an associate at Shea & Gardner (now Goodwin Procter), a commercial litigation firm in Washington, D.C.  John moved to Oregon in 2004 and began working as a Deputy District Attorney in Multnomah County in January 2005.  During his time as a Deputy D.A., John worked in the misdemeanor trial unit and felony property unit.  While in the D.A.'s office, John handled approximately 50 trials and presented numerous cases to the grand jury.. John was born in the Bronx, New York, and he is an avid New York Yankees fan.  He enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, shooting pool, and playing cards.

I love being a dad. The bulk of my free time is spent with my family, riding motorcycles, or being with friends.

I have been a lawyer assisting people who have been injured by bad drivers, doctors and lawyers in state and federal courts since 1984. I pride myself on providing fast and personal attention to resolve cases in a fast, fair and complete way. I grew up near Chicago. I graduated from public high school in 1976, and then went to Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, graduating in 1980 with a bachelor of arts majoring in economics. I spent 1980-81 cleaning the undersides of airplanes while becoming a commercial rated pilot and a certified flight instructor, instrument and airplane. I loved teaching and flying in instrument conditions, basically in the clouds or fog, using only the instruments in the airplane to maintain safe flight. In 1981, I decided I didn't want to seek a job with an airline--though I have continued to be a current  flight instructor since 1981.I enrolled in the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College in the fall of 1981 and graduated in 1984. I spent several years working for the law school's legal clinic where I primarily assisted low-income people needing help with consumer problems. I went in to private practice upon his admission to the Bar in September, 1984. Since then, I have represented thousands of people in getting a fair resolution of their claim against wrongdoers and insurance companies. I pride myself on helping people who have been victimized by an accident or incident in getting a fast and fair result. Most people have never had to bring a claim and can be easily victimized by an insurance company. I provide fast and personal attention to assist you from the first meeting through the end of your claim. I grew up in the Denver Colorado area, and was active in outdoor activities.   I moved to the Portland area to attend law school and because of the great outdoor and natural beauty of the Northwest, I made the area my home.  i am active in skiing and biking and other sporting events every chance I get, as it renews my zest for life and my energy for work.. Eric is a civil litigator and trial lawyer.  He has taken over 75 cases to jury trial, along with hundreds of court trials, motion hearings and other court appearances.  Prior to joining GSW, he worked in the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office and for the in-house law offices of Farmers Insurance, where he learned to effectively resolve cases in the interest of his client.. Eric grew up in a small town in the Black Hills of South Dakota, where he learned his down-to-earth sensibility.  After earning a degree in Government from Augustana College, he moved to Washington, DC, where he helped launch and implement AmeriCorps, which involved traveling around the country to provide oversight and assistance to local AmeriCorps programs.  When his travels brought him to the Pacific Northwest, he knew immediately that he wanted to make Portland his home.. Having a strong commitment to public service, Eric has held numerous leadership positions with the Multnomah Bar Association, including President of the Young Lawyer Section and Chair of the Pro Bono Pledge Task Force.
