Success in business will be the result of being the best liar or cheat or who has the most power in Washington DC, rather than success being the result of providing the best service, or product,  or providing the product at the best price.

I have spent the last 43 years in a trying cases in Virginia and neighboring jurisdictions.   My practice was mostly criminal and insurance defense work for 20years and for the last 23 years it has been mostly representing plainitiffs in personal injury cases.  I have tried almost every conceivable personal injury case.  My results have earned me recognition as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a Fellow of the Virignia Law Foundation, and a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and numerous other Bar Associations.  I am presently the President of the Virginia State Bar, the mandatory Bar Association in Virginia with 45,000 members.  My firm is a small personl injury litigation firm consisting of Len Paris, Keith Marcus, and me.  We have over 100 years experience and an experienced staff to offer our clients.

In that capacity, I defended the District of Columbia and various government officials, including Mayor Anthony Williams and Chief of Police Charles Ramsey, in civil rights, habeas corpus, tort, and labor and employment matters. I earned my undergraduate degree in business from the College of William and Mary, and graduated cum laude from the George Mason University School of Law. While in law school, I was Managing Editor of the George Mason Law Review, and worked as a summer associate and third-year law clerk for the Washington, D.C. boutique firm of Stein, Mitchell & Mezines. After law school, I clerked for Judge John H. Bayly, Jr. of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.  As a law clerk, I worked with all three major divisions of the Superior Court: Family, Civil, and Criminal. I'm a native of Vienna, Virginia.  In my spare time, I enjoy reading, following current events, and watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers.

A graduate of Richmond Community High School and Virginia Commonwealth University, Dave was born in Richmond and returned here to live and practice law after he graduated from The University of Virginia School of Law.. In 2008, 2012, 2014, and 2015, the Richmond Police Training Academy invited Dave to participate in training basic recruits to recognize the signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication and impairment for training purposes.. A graduate of Richmond Community High School and Virginia Commonwealth University, Dave was born in Richmond and returned here to live and practice law after he graduated from The University of Virginia School of Law.. One of Dave's primary areas of practice is car accident litigation.  He appears in the courtroom frequently trying cases before both judges and juries and winning substantial verdicts for his clients.  When it serves a client’s best interests, he explores ways to resolve cases through arbitration and mediation. He works in the firm’s Richmond, VA office and represents clients across the state of Virginia.. Before he joined the Allen Law Firm, Dave worked as in house legal counsel for a major automobile liability insurance company.  He represented insurance company policyholders who had been sued by plaintiffs injured in motor vehicle accidents. This experience has given Dave insight into how auto liability insurance company adjusters, managers, and lawyers think and work, how they handle and evaluate claims and how they defend the policyholder during litigation.. Dave understands that liability insurance companies believe the plaintiff’s deposition is the single most important event that takes place before trial.  For this reason, he takes special care to prepare his clients well for the questions a defense lawyer may ask during depositions. Dave also recognizes the “red flags” or weaknesses in a defendant’s case, especially those that may worry insurance adjusters and encourage them to settle cases before trial.. Dave has great respect for the criminal and civil justice system established by the Constitution.  He believes young people who learn more about our legal system will become better citizens.  Working with teachers at both James River and Hermitage High Schools, Dave has helped organize mock trials where students undertake the roles of judges, lawyers, witnesses and jurors.  He has taught business and legal classes at Hermitage Tech with an emphasis on career opportunities in the field of law and law enforcement.. Continuing legal education is vital for lawyers and others in law enforcement.
