Tom is a general practice attorney and experienced litigator who represents individuals and businesses in the Richmond Metropolitan Area and surrounding jurisdictions. He began his career at the Office of the Public Defender for the City of Richmond, whereat he served as lead counsel in hundreds of cases to verdict.. Prior to attending law school, Tom served on active duty as a commissioned officer in the United States Navy and was twice deployed in support of Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. His military decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation, and various personal and unit commendations, medals, and awards.. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Chesterfield County Bar Association, and the Greater Richmond Criminal Bar Association, the latter for which he served on the Board of Officers from 2009 to 2014 and as President from 2012 to 2013.. Appointed by the Governor to serve a three-year term, from 2013 to 2016, Tom was a Member of the Virginia Indigent Defense Commission. With an annual budget of $45 million, the Commission is the government body responsible for direct oversight of the state’s public defender system and for the appointment of qualified counsel to indigent persons accused of crimes that are punishable by incarceration or death.. In addition to being a fervent Virginia Tech alumnus, Tom is active in veterans’ organizations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 354. He is admitted to practice law before all state courts of Virginia.

Justin Criner received his undergraduate degree in Political Science at Virginia Commonwealth University where he met his wife and fell in love with Richmond and the surrounding areas. Mr. Criner received his juris doctor from the Appalachian School of Law in 2013 where he was a senior editor of the law journal and the president of the local Lions’ Club. He remains active in the community and can regularly be found at Lions’ Club or VCU athletic events. Before joining Hairfield Morton, PLC, Mr. Criner worked as a prosecutor and criminal defense attorney in Charleston, WV and opened his own practice in the Stafford, VA area. His areas of practice include criminal and family law as well as an active civil litigation practice in numerous areas, Mr. Criner prides himself on being able to bring countless hours of courtroom experience to each case while still taking the time to provide personal attention to individual clients and explore new ideas. He resides in Chesterfield County with his wife and daughter.

JOHN NEWBY focuses his practice exclusively on personal injury law. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Richmond Bar Association and the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.In 2008, 2009, and 2011 Virginia Super Lawyers recognized John as a rising star, which is a yearly listing of the top 50 young lawyers in Virginia. Two of John's trial verdicts were listed in Virginia Lawyers Weekly's Top Verdicts of the Year (2006 and 2007). John has also successfully argued cases before the Virginia Supreme Court. John grew up in Chesterfield County and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a B.A. in History in 1998. After college, he attended law school at Washington and Lee University and graduated in 2001. Prior to college and law school, John served in the United States Army and was stationed at N.A.T.O. headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. He continued his military service with the Army National Guard until 2003.

After high school, I enlisted in the United States Air Force and later returned to the Richmond area to get my Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. I graduated from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2001.. Prior to forming my own firm, I worked for Robert S. Carter, P.C. while in law school and after I graduated.  I then went to work for Tuck & Associates, PLC as an associate attorney.. During my free time I enjoy running and am a member of the Richmond Road Runner Club. I also enjoy traveling and riding my Harley Davidson™ with the Steel Horse Chapter of the Harley Owners Group.
