I was born and raised in Virginia.  I attended college and law school in Virginia, and have enjoyed building a legal career and practicing law in courts across the state, from Roanoke to Virginia Beach, and from Richmond to Fairfax to Winchester.. I enjoy nearly every facet of the law, but I have a particular focus on the ethics of the practice of law, as well as the complexities of Virginia civil procedure.  Having had the opportunity while I was in law school to study and to work with W. Hamilton Bryson, author of the definitive treatise on Virginia Civil Procedure and truly one of the kindest and most intelligent men I have ever met, I gained an appreciation for the framework of our procedural rules.. I am fascinated not only by the rules themselves, but by the history behind the rules.  Virginia's legal community always keeps an eye on its rich legal tradition and its prominence in shaping American legal history.  From the strict rules governing some of the first British settlements on our continent, to the pivotal role of Virginia's legal elite in the founding of our nation, to the evolution of the law in Virginia to meet the challenges of the new millennium, our Commonwealth has inspired, and been inspired by, attorneys.  I am proud to be a part of that long and storied tradition.

Frances Elizabeth “Beth” Burgin Waller focuses on commercial litigation and medical malpractice defense. Beth’s practice ranges from representing corporations and directors in shareholder derivative actions to defending doctors and hospitals in malpractice claims. Erin B. Ashwell is an associate in Woods Rogers' Litigation Section.  A native of Bedford County, Erin is licensed to practice in Virginia and California. Erin graduated magna cum laude from Harvard college University in 2002 with a degree in Government.  Prior to attending law school, Erin worked as a staff assistant in the United States Senate. Erin earned her J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 2006.  While in law school, Erin was a Virginia Governor's Fellow and a summer associate in an international law firm in Washington D.C. and in Hong Kong, China.  Erin was also a Teaching Fellow in the Harvard Government Department, where she was awarded a certificate for distinction in teaching.   After law school, Erin worked as a trial lawyer for the United States Department of Justice, frequently litigating in California.  She has also been a lecturer in Political Science at Hollins University, and most recently a pro se law clerk, and temporary clerk to the Honorable Michael F. Urbanski, United States Magistrate Judge.

Daniel T. Sarrell, a member of our experienced Litigation section, focuses his practice on the defense of medical malpractice claims, commercial litigation and general litigation. He has experience in all aspects of civil litigation, including successful first-chair and second chair jury trial experience, discovery, motions practice, depositions and meditations.. The North Carolina native graduated as valedictorian, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from North Carolina State University. As an undergraduate, Daniel received the Erika Fairchild Prize for most outstanding departmental honors thesis as well as the Phi Kappa Phi Outstanding Senior Award.. While in law school at the University of Richmond, Daniel, a cum laude graduate, served as a member of the Law Moot Court Board and the Client Counseling and Negotiation Board. As recipient of a Virginia Law Foundation Fellowship, Daniel worked at the Richmond Capital Defender’s Office during law school. He also received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Employment Discrimination..
